a new TV deal and a new president (2002/09/17)

    (source: Nikkan Sports)

All Japan and Fuji Television are about to reach the deal for a regular TV show. All Japan will have the 30th anniversary party on 9/30 which is said to feature the announcement of Keiji Mutoh as the new president. The new TV show will be either monthly or weekly. According to Mutoh, he wants the show to be more like a variety show instead of traditional wrestling show that only features matches. It will most likely include the matches as well as the documentary of the wrestlers.

This will be the first regular TV show (besides cable or satellite) for All Japan since the weekly show was cancelled by Nippon TV which broadcasted All Japan for 27 years.

    HOORAY!!!

But, I'm actually worried if Muta may have a handle in the program content that's too much for his own good. If you recall, ATHENA (AJW's old program) didn't feature all-match format either.

I just hope Muta comes to his senses and realizes PURORESU GUYS ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO SING!...

Really, leave the singing to people who make music for a living(like one of my all time favorite bands X Japan)

You probably know that most of the top AJW girls sang on the ring and released records.

As far as I know, guys have never sang in the ring, but some of them actually released records.

    Thunder Sugiyama
    Strong Kobayashi
Samson Kutsuwada (the first Tiger Mask)
    Tatsumi Fujinami
    Yoshiaki Fujiwara
    Jumbo Tsuruta
Kengo Kimura (said to be the best singer in puroresu)
    Ashura Hara
    Atsushi Ohnita
    Tiger Mask ("original", Satoru Sayama)

I put them like that since everyone remembers Sayama as the first one(and people call him "original"), and not many people know Kutsuwada was the first one to use the gimmick when he had a minor stint as a heel in South Korea.

And he used to play guitar and write songs too. I believe he wrote his own entrace theme which he used in early to mid 80s.

    A couple of quick comments:

First off,I believe The Great Kutsuwada wrestled under the name of "Ultra Tiger Mask" in Korea, but I may be wrong. This character was also mentioned in the Korean movie The Foul King and was actually suppossed to be the trainer of the main character in the movie.

Second, the idea of All Japan's show being more of a "not all match based" format wouldn't be so bad if it was a SECONDARY show, much like the "NOAH's Arc" show NOAH has had on NTV in the past,...IF it was more of a documentary/wrestler close-up type of show with some matches of the wreestler highlighted.THAT could be kind of informative and interesting. But I wouldn't want it to be like some of the NOAH's Arc episodes with Taue out fishing with Marufuji and Kanemaru and the episode ends with Taue throwing bugs at the other two while chasing after them,....I'M NOT KIDDING! That type of show would be an embarassment.
