Since they have not booked a final, the final two matches of the round-robin stage,
12/6 at Nippon Budokan:
Muto & Animal [10] vs. Tenryu & Tenta [8]
Kea & Kojima [9] vs. Otani & Tanaka [8]
The highest point-getting team will get the belts.
Since Kea/Kojima vs. Otani & Tanaka is the main event, the only possibility is that Tenryu & Tenta will win, getting 10 pts, total, clearing the way for Kea & Kojima to beat Otani & Tanaka and earn a total of 11 - higher than anyone else.
I like how this has been booked. As nobody is really able to predict the outcome being that there are 4 teams still mathimaticly in the hunt so to speak. Allthough I see Kea & Kojima taking it.
I agree with you guys Kojima/Kea or Otani Tanaka. Tenryu is headed out and obviously not in Mutoh's plans. Muto's ego being what it is cannot be an issue due to his partner not being a regular.
Anyone looking forward to the Road Warriors vs. Choshu's army?
Hopefully they will stay champs for awhile rather than be a tool for teams/individuals that have no respect for the belts (i.e. SAPP,Goldberg,Hogan etc.) I do fear that the will become pawns in the interpromotional swapping going on.
I agree with you there Dan. If Kojima/Kea have to lose the belts, then they should drop them to a team that is actually good like, oh I don't know... say... Tanaka/Ohtani??? And anyways, why does any descent wrestling fed even want to even bother with those bums Hogan, Sapp, Goldberg, etc?? I know this is slightly off topic, but c'mon. AJPW and Muto should realize the financial and political crisis these men will bring to the company.
You love me, you love me not, but you definately respect me!!!!
Yes it WOULD be great for Ohtani and Tanaka to win the belts.Tanaka is especally suited for the All Japan style,...but I do love watching Ohtani, who may be a little bit better well rounded overall.
Maybe Tenryu is NOT on his way out after this lousy attendance for the RWTL "finals". I do think not having a "Grand Final" was a turn off for some fans,...I know it was for me.To be honest, with the point standings and considering the four teams in the running to win,it was PAINFULLY obvious who was going to win.A HUGE part of the appeal of puroresu is the fact that it is usually nowhere near as predictable as wrestling in North America. And as was stated by others previously,I couldn't see Tenta oor Animal winning half the titles after the whole Kronik winning the titles fiasco.Maybe this poor attendance will lead to a path back to "King's Road"?At the very least,it would be nice for them to scrap the idea of "Mr. Washed-Up" Hogan being brought in ,...FOR ANY REASON. We'll see if they at least try to book Mike Awesome for future tours. He is not very technically sound, but he is quite agile, has legit power to pull of good power moves and can at least work stiff. He is also willing to sell for smaller guys as well.WHY did they book him with PJ Friedman? I'm sure they could have found a better partner.I would have like to have seen him team with George Hines in the tournament, but I think he was injured.
I hope next years RWTL has a "Grand Final",...but at least a very deserving team won.
Well spoken TR...
The problem has been the "solution" all along. I have to give Muto a tip of the hat, with Kawada out, he kept interest from a name value stand point. However, with his acquistion of control and his American vision/Inoki influnced (shooters) of what AJPW should be it is obviously tanking. Someone in an earlier threaf posted that there may be hope that Tenryu will get the book yet, if Muto's vision falters. I cannot say it would be better at the gate. Tenryu has obviously worked here before and knows the Baba method. With that he would not upset the core fans. He also has many of te same ties that Muto has to the talent in the U.S. So, it would seem to me that if you bring the AJ loyal fans back into the fold that he can build from that, without using Inoki's flash and presentation gimmick.
But I think we ALL agree for King's Road to return (without HOgan and SAPP, because I think GOldberg could fit in if his ego is in check), Kawada MUST get the book. If that were to happen the Grand Finals would return and the promotion would not be a vehicle for his ego (as he stated he would retire if he got the book).
I would much rather see Kawada get the ownership of the fed over Muto (Muto might not be that bad as a booker if it wasn't for his vision of a sport-entertainment company, over a wrestling fed, which I would much rather see). But, Kawada is one of my alltime favorite wrestlers, and he probably would retire if he got the company, so I don't want to see him retire. But, all good things must come to an end, so I could just by some older tapes of the great "Dangerous K".
