    Question Giant Baba Info...

I have only seen brief footage of Giant Baba in the DC game Giant Gram 2000. Without wanting to sound blasphemous, he appears to be a useless, slow, old guy (No disrespect intended to the guy!). I know he was great in the office, but as a wrestler, did he suck or not? Please tell me about him. When was he at his peak? What matches did he have that were great?

    Thanks,

Baba started in 1960 so of course he would be slow by 1998. His huge size had made him an instant attraction. Starting in 1964 when his mentor, Rikidozan (who also taught Antonio Inoki) died, he became one of the top guys in Puroresu.

He was always quite clumsy (what thin giant isn't?), but in his younger years he was quicker. Still, his matches against more talented guys such as Jack Brisco or Harley Race for the NWA World title in the 70's weren't exactly sights to see, other than for the sake of the title.

The best series of matches was against Stan Hansen from 1982 to about 1985. Of course, Hansen did the carry job. And he did a great job of it.

danabusa, have you ever seen Stan Hansen work? He is not exactly a light worker. Hansen can be sooooo stiff when he belts someone it is borderline shoot. Do not misconceive Baba as a worker who was completely inept. For a man his size, his job was not to bump like a Liger or even a Kawada. When you are a giant, people bump for you.

Oh, cheers guys. I didn't wanna insult the guy, but he just looked kinda slow etc. But if he debuted in the 60s then I guess he must've been pretty good.

I have seen Hansen, and I know wotcha mean. He is one stiff worker.

    Thanks for your help!
