What is the significance of the numbers on the end of some move names (the 91 in Tiger Driver 91 and the 85 in Tiger Suplex 85, etc)??? Is it just a random number??? Why not Tiger Driver 43??? Also, isn't the Tiger Suplex 85 more of a Dragon Suplex than a Tiger Suplex? A trival point I know, but answers to the numbers thing would be much appreciated!
(And yes, perhaps this should have been posted on the NOAH board, but who cares, eh?)
Yeah, a year numbers after a move means it's a variation of that move that was debuted(often accidentally) in that year(ie. Exploder '98 is a pumphandle exploder that was debuted in 98. Other numbers and symbols (#2, II, II-B, alpha, etc.) are either different variations of the move or different moves by the same name, as the case warrants.
As for Tiger Suplex '85, it's a rear choke hold belly-to-back suplex, as illustrated here.
I know what the Tiger Suplex '85 is, but just thought it had more in common with the Dragon/Full-Nelson suplex as one arm is held half-nelson styleee. Is it a 'Tiger' suplex because of Misawa's Tiger Mask roots??? Oh, and was it Misawa who accidently debuted these two moves?
Thanks for your help, and sorry if these seem trivial questions!!!
Well, the '85 certainly doesn't look like a tiger suplex AT ALL, so i guess it's because of his Tiger Mask roots *OR* mebbe it's what he pulled off when his opponent resisted the normal tiger suplex (y'know, like when they're struggling to pull off moves?).
The Tiger Suplex 85 is a chickenwing half-nelson suplex, so it's still close enough to the Tiger Suplex to retain the name. Mayumi Ozaki uses the move regularly.
Misawa was wrestling as Tigermask II at the time.
aww, come on, man. Where's the chicken-wing? I certainly don't see it. There is never a moment where Misawa hooked his opponent's arm back (like in a tiger suplex). I mean, just look at the picture!
Well... It's been a while since I've watched Misawa matches and I have no access to my tapes or GG 2000 here, so my memory might be betraying me here, but I'm pretty sure Misawa underhooks one arm for the Tiger Suplex 85.
The picture does show a half-nelson/half-sleeper hold alright...
What can I say? I'll have to get back to my tapes
Ah! Sorry Hisa. But, it could be argued that no matter what, Misawa will ALWAYS be an All Japan guy. Also, the moves (which were the topic, not Misawa himself) were invented in All Japan rings, and were named by All Japan people. Thus, this is an All Japan topic. Heh, Heh...
BTW, I would reply about the Fire Pro vs. GG2K thing here, but would risk the wrath of Hisa again...... so hop on over to the Video Games board for my interesting views on the topic....
