I never like seeing a promoter close up shop, but isn't it time to get over it? It's not like the company died yesterday. And I think we all knew it was only a matter of time until the company folded after Kudo hung up the boots. There was a big drop in business when Onita retired and after Kudo hung them up they were longer a major promoter. Anyone who seriously (as in not in comedy match way) runs an anal bomb deathmatch does not deserve to be in business.
FMW was a great promotion that gave a lot of american fans their first exposure to puroresu. But independents, no matter how awesome, can only last for so long... besides, people like Kudoh, Onita, Hayabusa, Kanemura, and Masato Tanaka need to move on after a while. You put your body on the line enough times, you deserve to move on to bigger things or be allowed to retire gracefully, with a storied career behind you. That said, it's rather sad to see Kanemura booked the way he is in the small time indies. He was a hard worker and deserves better.
To me, FMW was about a particular set of people that put on some extraordinary matches in a wrestling genre that had yet to have extraordinary matches. When those people had to move on, FMW, despite some promising workers, couldn't continue. And to be honest, I'd rather not see a guy like Tanaka, who has enormous amounts of talent, have to be cut open by sickles and barbed wire or get thrown through tables his entire career in order to make a buck.
