    Mr.Pogo Retirement

I have read on this site and on a tape description about a match with Funk ending Pogo's career. What happened? Did he retire? What the exact spot/injury that made him retire?

Mr. Pogo: Real name Tetsuo Sekigawa.

Mr. Pogo 2: Real name Gosaku Goshogowara. Has also wrestled as Biomonster DNA and in the transvestite gimmick Azusa Kudo.

Actually, Azusa Kudo is his real name, but the transvestite gimmick had Azusa written in hiragana instead of Chinese characters (it would give more femininity)

I think it was Funk throwing Pogo through a glass screen or something. Sure was painful, but Pogo didn't retire - he's still wrestling and promoting WWS, as I said in another post.

I remember reading about an electrified barbed wire match where Pogo was draped across the wire and legitimately injured, and I believe that he did stop wrestling for a short while after that. I think it was August 8/96 that the match happened, and he was gone for about 4 months.

I can't believe I missed this thread, since it discusses my favorite moment in wrestling.

Of course, you must take into account that I dislike Mr. Pogo with a passion, so this is a match I watch whenever I feel down. I can do the commentary without even watching it

On August 23rd, 1996, Terry Funk wrestled Mr. Pogo in a "No Rope Electrified Barbed Wire Double Hell Glass Crush Spider Net Landmine Death Match." Towards the end of the match, Funk blows a fireball on Pogo, and Pogo falls from the apron and into a spider net. The spider net exploded of course due to the landmine. Mr. Pogo didn't fall in it correctly however (this is his fault, not Funk's), and the landmine temporarily paralyzes him. As he lays in the spider net, Funk exits the ring and blows a fireball on him at close range. Eventually he is stretchered out.

Mr. Pogo would take time off, but would eventually (and unfortunately) return to the ring.

You mean to tell me there exists a match in which Pogo not only takes a bump, but doesn't take it properly and hurts himself in the process? Oh, how that is sweet sweet justice. When you call not selling, having offense that makes Hogan look like Kawada and digging a kama into someone's back wrestling it's refreshing to find out that he finally got what has been coming to him.

On the topic of WWS, do they have a ring yet? I saw some pictures from an early show that looked like it was in someone's basement with mats on the floor. And naked girls getting attacked by horror movie characters. At first I thought I stumbled on some low budget AV film, and had to double check the link. If you're going to try to combine AV and puro, at least go to as much trouble as WWAV and AVW do. They put a ring up, and even have a live audience that gets paid 10 yen each to attend the show!

I couldn't believe it either. Most places in America would charge you an arm and a leg for admission to a place like that. But these crazy cats don't just let you in for free, no sir, THEY PAY YOU. If you're really lucky, they may even ask you to be a part of the show on your way in, as I know someone who was asked (and for some fool reason) said no. I immediately suggest he get his head examined. Really, worst case you get paid more than 10 yen to wrestle and have a good time with a fine Japanese chick. Only in Japan I tell you, only in Japan.

My feelings exactly, Tradewynd. In fact, I had been meaning to extract the clip for some time. You can see the fall by clicking here: http://www.wrestlingencyclopedia.com...eathToPogo.MPG it is about 3.4 MB

I heard Funk threw him to exploding BW and the explosion pushed Pogo's neck up and hurted it. Funk didnt know and continued the match... just like Hayabusa... Then in his last match he gave the Mr pogo Gimmick to his protege to continue it, but I think he returned to wrestling...
I can smell it, I can hear it... Its triple H!!! he just won the world title on a fluke! (again)

Bump looks very, very painful, but I've still seen worst bumps, but yeah Pogo is nuts...
