    Tarantula Forest Death Match

What exactly was the Tarantula Forest Death Match between Matsunga and Zandig? Was the tarantula used in a similiar fashion as pirhanas and scorpions used in other Big Japan death matches?

I've seen the match before... wasn't as good as it was hoped to be as Zandig seemed to refuse to take any big bumps as opposed to Matsunaga who, despite being pretty much crippled because of his years doing Deathmatches, took two big bumps.

The Tarantula Tank was placed in one corner and was part of the stipulations of the match with Thorn Bushes, Rose Thorn Boards and Light Bulbs.

There was one spot where Matsunaga tried to powerbomb Zandig into the tank but got reversed and he ended up smashing the tank up.

It was a cringe worthy moment when Matsunaga and Zandig were pushed close to the tarantulas as I almost felt certain it'd rush and bite them but sadly the tarantulas chose to flee for their little lives.

Also to make the match even worse it ended in no contest after Jun Kasai and Van Hammer interfeared.

But other than that it's a unique match idea which I'd like to see again someday.

    Thanks for the info Toan.

Sounds like an interesting concept. Then agian a match with Zandig and run in from Van Hammer *cringe* must leave something to be desired. They should of made it Matsunga vs. Kasai and sat back and enjoyed the carnage.

Well, they could have but Kasai and Matsunaga were stablemates during that time in "CZW USA" which was led by Matsunaga of all people.

It wasn't the best example of CZW or Big Japan's Deathmatches to be honest. However both federations have evolved since then.

Too bad it had Zandig in the match: Wifebeater or Necro Butcher would of taken that bump. I dunno, are Tarantulas all that ferocious? i always heard taht they leave people alone. Reminds me of that fear factor episode with the pirahnas that didn't bite. Maybe they get mad if you get power bombed on them.

I really think these japanese dudes are really crazy, taking those risks. You never know if the tarantula will actually bite or not. They get shocked, fall trhough glass and explsoves and get stuck in barbed wire and they still go on... thats love for the buisness...
I can smell it, I can hear it... Its triple H!!! he just won the world title on a fluke! (again)

Tarantulas are pretty easy. I have a pet tarantula.

I wonder if Big Japan will ever do those types of matches again?

I mean, scorpions and piranhas are pretty easy to annoy. With scorpions you just need to flick sand at them or swat them with your belt (like Matsunaga did) and with piranhas you just need to drip a little bit of blood into their tank and they'll start getting in a frenzy.

Could have an interesting match considering BJW has evolved since the times they did those matches.

Ryuji Ito, Jun Kasai, Mad Man Pondo and Necro Butcher would obviously be top picks for those matches.

I ate a chocolate covered scorpion when I was in London once. The scorpion tasted a bit smokey. I feel bad for all those animals though; if someone fell on the they'd go splat. Dunno if I really want to see those kind of death matches with guys like Ito or Kasai, they seem a bit overqualified in the skills department. Now if Kasai was the Crazy Monkey and started swatting at the spiders with a stick, now your talking! That and Necro Butcher would have one stapled to his head or something.

Lol, now THAT would be cool.

I remember in IWA Mid-South they had a Barbwire ropes & Pool of Leaches Deathmatch between "Mean" Mitch Page and Corporal Robinson which had Mitch getting two leaches stapled to him... one on his back and one on his head.

After the match in a backstage interview Page asked to get the leach pulled out by Pondo who then commented it might be a good new look for him.

    Cracked me up good!

There's nothing quite like Garbage Indy ingenuity. But aren't leaches sucking on you a good thing, if controled. Lol, I guess it doesn't matter.

Well, with Deathmatch Hardcore-style wrestling it's all about the sick visuals of blood and weapon use.

As long as it gets a decent pop from the fans and enough tape sales then whatever works works, I guess.

Well, I guess stapling is stapling. I always wanted to see someone staple barbed wire to someone, thought that would look cool.

Yeah, that'd be interesting to see but I think it would all depend on how thin the barbwire is or how big the staples are.
