i recently read somewhere that inoki said he planned starting a promotion in the us, with don frye as the main attraction.
Does anyone know anything about this?
And what do you think of it?
If it is, indeed, true, it will NEVER work.
...unless WWF adopts a work-rate intensive, foreigner-friendly style and manages to get it over as the standard for wrestling in America....
So yeah, an Inoki fed in America won't work.

LoL, yeah, that's true. Vince McMahon couldn't take the little competition (ratings-wise) he was getting from the WCW and ECW. I'd hate to see what he would do to a company that could easily over-shadow his own in the near future.

Shoot-style promotions aren't too huge in North America. We can make claims about the popularity of the UFC and other MMA companies, but shoot-style will not get over in the US with the way the current fans are "trained"; it's almost as if Vince has them now only trained to enjoy short, psychology-lacking matches, excessive T&A segments, and the like... besides, Inoki (in my very myopic opinion ) is slowly killing Shin Nihon with the shoot-style integration (hopefully Chono with his new position can help NJPW)... I don't think there's any chance of him succeeding in the US.
Would be great news if it ever got off the ground. There is a market for an alternative to the WWE IMHO if it has the proper backing. However if its MMA orienated then its never going to get over on a larger scale. Inoki would do better to stick with a more junior orientated route if hes going to use japanese workers.
i don't even think that would work without a good dose of t and a. wwe has managed some type of perverse zombification on its fans that makes them mark out like there's no tomorrow for the word "puppies".
"uh, you're a tool?" rvd to big show after show wanted to know why he didn't get the ic title shot
