Amazon Japan has a Tiger Mask DVD set, and I was hoping someone would know a little bit about it. The site says it contains his "entire career" however I would have to think that is a bit of a stretch. I mean, the "entire carrer" of Tiger Mask? Here's the link to the box set, any and all info about it would be greatly appreciated. I have to know what I'm buying for 30,000 yen, you can't just find that in your couch(not mine anyway). It's called something like "The Original Tiger Mask Final Collection".
Oops, sorry about that. Copied the link and then I never posted it. I'm 99.9% sure that it only covers Sayama, but if it was nearly everything Sayama has done I wouldn't have a problem paying it. For sure this time, here's the link:
If you don't have Japanese text installed it will probably come up as a bunch of boxes for text. I recommend either NJ Star or the native Windows XP support if you're using XP. Atlavista should also be able to give you a literal translation of what the site says. They also have some UWF-i DVDs now. Does anyone know what is on these and how long they are? I'm skeptical to import puro DVDs just because you don't get a lot for your money. The 5/2 Dome Show is split between 2 DVDs, and each one is 6800 yen if I remember correctly...
Yeahm I don't really have any problems with R2 DVDs(or any region for that matter, I love my Apex 1500). Are there any other online retailers that sell Japanese DVDs? I've checked out Amazon and CDJapan(who doesn't even have the Tiger Mask set) and would love to find someone that has it for a somewhat better price. Of course, I'll probably wait until there is a more favorable exhange rate, the last time I imported from Japan it was 147 yen to a US dollar, and now it's 116(which makes a big difference when buying something like this).
DVD Review: The Revival of Tiger Mask Final Collection
I have the 6 DVD Tiger Mask box set.
It cost me about £200 from www.cdjapan.co.jp inc. shipping.
It may be slightly cheaper now, and now all 6 DVD's are available seperately for 3800 Yen each.
It contains 56 of Satoru Sayama's matches from 1981 to 1983.
Most matches are complete, a few are joined in progress.
Quality varies however. Some are excellent quality, some look like they were recorded off TV. But as this is the commercial release, those matches won't be seen in better quality anywhere else. And the quality is better on these than on some of WWE's recent DVD releases.
Matches include:
8 matches vs. The Dynamite Kid (7 singles, 1 6-man tag)
7 matches vs. Black Tiger (4 singles, 3 tags)
9 matches vs. Kuniaki Kobayashi (6 singles, 3 tags)
Other opponents include:
Bret Hart
Gran Hamada
El Canek
Pete Roberts
Steve Wright
Blackman
Isamu Teranishi
The matches are excellent, as you would expect. The famous feud with The Dynamite Kid is superb, and the picture quality is good too. The matches against Kobayashi are really heated, and are well worth seeing. Not all the matches are the high-flying style he was famous for, some, like the Steve Wright matches, are slow and technical.
Japanese original DVD's are very expensive, but I was really happy with these. Most Japanese websites are in Japanese language, which makes ordering these rather difficult, but CD Japan's site is in English.
Average Match Quality: A
Picture Quality: C
Value For Money: C
Overall: B
Terrific matches, but the high price and poor picture on a few of the matches drags the score down a bit.
If you don't want to pay such a high price for these classic matches, you might see some rips available on eBay soon...
I hope you enjoyed reading this review, I might post some more shortly.
It looks very good, I have a Region 2 DVD player so it should work on there. Anyone know if I can find this anywhere in the UK or would I need to order it from Amazon in Japan?.
It's a Japan release, so you probably won't find it in the UK. It will probably be cheaper buying over the net than getting it special ordered, but you can always ask what local stores would charge for a special order if they import. There's a 99.9% chance though that buying somewhere on the net will be your best bet.

Thanks for the information. It's 31,500 Yen for the 6 Disc Tiger Mask set on Amazon.co.jp. It's just the first Tiger Mask according to the translation and is matches from 1981-1983. I have TWC (UK Satellite Wrestling channel) which has New Japan Classic and had a special on the Dynamite Kid and showed his matches with Tiger Mask. I will watch that once it's repeated instead I think.
