I know Karl Gotch taught many Japanese wrestlers, and I would like to know if any club/dojo in Osaka still teaches Catch wresting?
I'm a foreigner teaching english, and my japanese is minimal.
Catch is one of the original submission art forms. It has a long and rich history in such places as europe and America. Some of the greats were Lou Thesz, Karl Gotch, Frank Gotch. (no relation).
no one really teaches catch anymore. It's dying out with all the greats. These days, people teach submission wrestling which shares many similarities with catch. In B.C. there are a few places that teach submission/ bjj .
If you happen to be interested in learning a few holds...

The instructor is Trevor Clarkson who was the 1997 Gold Medalist at the Rickson Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Championships and a whole host of other stuff. He teaches kick-boxing and Jeet Kune Do and all sorts of stuff too. What do you think?
No it isn't. The holds are more limited in college/HS wrestling (for safety), and there aren't any submissions, just pin attempts.
For such catch, your best bet is to find a school that teaches amateur shoot techniques. I know of schools in Europe such as www.shooters.se in Sweden but I don't know of any in the US...

Catch wrestling is very different from bjj. I would even go on to say catch is different from shoot fighting or shoot wrestling.
But I place myself in no position to elaborate much further on the history of catch wrestling. The best source of info on catch today is Tony Cecchine at http://www.catchwrestle.com/index1.htm
You will find all the info on his forum. His forum is very similar to this one. Good solid info, no buu sheet.
One more thing, catch has been misrepresented and exploited by Matt Fuery. Try to avoid his bullshit like the plague.
