I'm fairly new to puroresu, so can anyone tell me what's the difference (stylewise) between the major japanese organizations. I hope the question makes sense. Thanks in advance.
Hey there, buddy. Welcome to the board.
Here's the lowdown...
All Japan (AJPW): A technical, stiff style. Very traditional wrestling. Home to some of the greatest matches in the 90's. AJ's distinct style is known as "King's Road".
New Japan (NJPW): Well, NJ has a more varied style. There's a fantastic Juniors Division and then there's the usual Heavyweight Division. Both are great. Although i can't put my finger on it, the NJ heavyweight style is close to, but ultimately different from AJPW's style. NJ's style is known as "Strong Style".
Zero-One (Z-1): There is a mix of everything here.
NOAH: When AJPW's top star Mitsuharu Misawa left in 2000, he and a big fraction of the other AJ wrestlers created this. I think that NOAH is basically King's Road style, but it's a bit more varied.
Michinoku Pro (M-Pro): This is a fast-paced, fast-action lucha libre style promotion. However, it is different from straight lucha libre because there are more japanese style technical wrestling involved. More accurately, this is known as lucharesu style.
Toryumon: Another lucharesu promotion. Opened up by legendary Ultimo Dragon.
Toryumon 2000 Project (T2P): This is a branch-off of Toryumon. This is even more lucha style than Toryumon.
