New Japan has always been my favorite. 2nd to 5th, I'm not sure. There weren't many enough to choose back in the early 80s, and there are too many to pick only five these days.
BTW, you guys probably know that NWA is/was not a federation, right?
By 'past' I meant which federation did you like the most that no longer exists\has greatly declined in quality. Not what fed you liked when you were young and innocent (WWE fans... ).
Still, good choices by all.
I have seen the face of Satan, and his name is Bill Apter.
Past:
- Stampede
- NWA
- WWF (80s era)
- World Class
- Mid-South
Present:
- Pride
- WWE (Smackdown guys (Benoit, Eddie, Angle, etc.) ONLY)
- RoH
- NJPW (particularly the Junior Heavyweights)
- The little bits of NOAH and Zero-1 I've seen
"The character of a man is not defined how he acts on when on top, but how he picks himself up when he has been knocked down."

Actually, the NWA IS a federation. A federation is basically the same thing as an alliance, an association, or a coalition. They all refer to a group or organization that is composed of two or more different entities.
What the NWA is not is a promotion. I think the use of the term "Federation" by various promotions have thrown people off as to what that word actually signifies or designates.
