I am going to be delving into a big heap o' puro in Septembr of recent events, prob July and August shows, I presume.
What is the best thing going right now? Toryumon? Zero-One? New Japan? any of thejoshi? Noah? Etc, etc... I need some help so I get the best stuff out there the best quality that everyone is hot for, an that will ALSO endear me to tape traders.
Everyone's probably has a different opinion, but I don't think you could go wrong checking out recent NOAH and New Japan stuff. NOAH's had a nice run, as they've got a hot champ in Kobashi and an excellent junior division, while New Japan just came off a really well recieved G1 tournament highlighted by a reinvigorated Tenzan.
I'm slightly biased and will go with New Japan. NOAH has looked good recently from what I've seen. AJPW is on it's last legs and the only things I even try to see anymore from them is Kojima, Kawada, and Mutoh (especially with Kea out hurt).
Even AJ has started booking some more interesting shows of late, bringing TAKA in to work some shows, using the WWE Army (which at least sounds somewhat funny), and mixing in more of the younger guys into the main events.
New Japan and NOAH are doing pretty well these days. With the G-1 Climax in the history books and the Nagata/Kobashi GHC title showdown, there's no doubt that these two feds are the best right now. Plus, they've got the best Juniors in the world today besides those from Toryumon, Osaka Pro and Michinoku Pro.
I'd say three promotions are doing well right now:
New Japan: Tenzan should win the IWGP Title
NOAH: Kobashi as champion is enough said, but will Nagata unseat him
Zero One: They finaly got rid of all the comedy routines.
