just to get a discussion going --
i was watching super j cup '95 and saw liger v. ultimo dragon going at it. that got me wondering... what's the "tale of the tape" for jushin thunder liger v. ultimo dragon? since they are contemporaries, i wonder how, and how often they were compared with one another, in-ring work, out-of-ring stuff, etc. how many times have they went at it? and what's their career like? can anyone give me a brief lowdown on each guy?
on a second note, speaking of contemporaries, which two wrestlers (at least today) are linked because of their rivalry, in-ring work, etc. (not thinking tag teams, but as opponents). i'm thinking something like kobashi-misawa (though that rivalry's been put to a rest for now), angle-benoit, etc.? any thoughts?
ultimo v liger is THE damnedest juniors matchup ever, at least in my opinion. its the dynamite v sayama of my generation. you just can't beat a match between two epitomes.
i dunno how often they met, but they traded various titles along the way, including the j crown. hope someone else knows more. i just wanted to say those two guys are puro defined for me.
as for great rivalries, liger v ultimo, kawada v misawa and muto v chono are the first ones i can think of.
Their first match at Tokyo Dome was a disappointment to me. I also saw the J-Crown title match but don't remember much. I guess that's how (un)impressive it was.
They are both great junior heavyweight wrestlers, but for some reason, I felt a style conflict everytime they met.
I think that style difference is that it IS a dream match. It isnt that either guy is a selfish wrestler but every time i saw them fight, the finish was a rollup or something like that. I think that it can be associated to this. I think that fans of liger are also fans of dragon. You really dont want to see one person go over the other. I think that they could have had a good fued and really helped out both of their careers but both have had good careers. They are more alike than different and have had better matches without each other than with each other. Both are true junior weight legends and just plain wrestling legends.
