And Naoya Ogawa last fall did a regular part on an NTV soap, "Danjiki" where he played a Shinto priest fond of food! Cute model/actress Kanako Enomoto also had a part.

Wow, is there no end to the man's talent? I remember seeing pics of him doing a wicked looking duet with Shinya Hashimoto on a Japanese variety show.

A Michi-pro match staged on a recent soap

Seikei Bijin (Artificial Beauty), Chapter 7 (there are 11)

Brief soap synopsis: Honami Saotome was an ugly woman who during a trip to the Mediterranean used plastic surgery to make herself beautiful (model/actress Ryoko Yonekura plays the transformation). She meets and falls in love with the elusive, good ol' boy Ikebana Master Ryusui Fujishima (Kippei Shiina, veteran soap and movie actor), heir to the Fujishima Ikebana School. He is appalled at her loudness and braggadocio but is one of the few to see behind the mask of Honami a girl who wants to be loved. Problem is, he's already engaged (for convenience's sake) to the daughter of the Master of another school. The Fujishima institute needs their backing to survive, and Ryusui wants to rebel against this, but obviously thinks Honami is just not that ideal woman...

Starting scene: Honami pretends to be a pro-wrestler and catches her dad (Hisahiro Ogura) in an abdominal stretch.

Honami is invited by co-worker model Isaki (Ryusui's kid sis, played by Manami Konishi) to lunch with their family. Problem is, Aoi (Noriko Aota), Ryusui's fiancee, is also there. Of course the others are appalled at Honami's loudness and Aoi thinks Isaki invited Honami on purpose. After Aoi leaves, Honami and Ryusui go outside and she mentions the Michinoku ticket she got.

    Sasuke vs. Tiger Mask IV
    Referee: Ted Tanabe
    Announcer: Punch Tahara
    (source: soap credits)

R'n Hall (some hall in Tokyo). No one is sitting around (for the soap's purpose). The lights at the center go on to reveal Sasuke, Tiger Mask, and Tanabe. Tahara can't be seen.

Tiger Mask uses nice shoot kicks and Sasuke counters back with a spin kick. Nice Lucharesu, but they don't go to the outside. They never do in this "match".

Honami sees Sasuke, her idol, as a symbol of her own struggles. She cheers for him... A fading B/W transformation occurs to what Honami used to look like (face bloated, huge, tear-swollen eyes, thin lips, loose hair, slight gut belly). Of course none of the others in the hall can see it, but the viewer can tell her mix of despair and happiness. She turns back, but unfortunately Ryusui has already left.

Honami Tenryu-chops a makeshift heavy bag in her room. But when she tries a shoot kick, she hurts her shin. "Itai!" (Ow!)

    ...

I saw this when Seikei Bijin aired on the Fuji TV hour here in NYC.

    Feel free to comment.

Hayabusa was in a movie called "Backyard Dogs" in the U.S. (horrible) and I heard that before Hayabusa got parilyzed, Hayabusa and Mr. Gannosuke were supposed to be in some movie in Japan (can't remember the name)

Isn't Chono supposed to play the lead bad guy in "Blade III"?
He'd be great in a Takeshi Kitano movie.

Squaresoft had a Cactus Jack reference in PE II.

And for all those who can't wait to check old man Fujiwara out...

In the unlikely event someone ever brings out a Ranma live-action movie (there have been Street Fighter movies and even a Dragon Ball one ) , he'd fit into the role of Happosai pretty well

Dr. Feelgood, i don't think Hisa would be too happy to see your pr0n0-link!

Anyway, if y'all are talking about puroresu appearances in other forms of media, then Misawa had appeared in an old Squaresoft Super Famicom (SNES) RPG called Live-A-Live, where a kid was watching TV and Misawa was doing the Roaring Elbow in it!

    Japanese wrestlers in movies

Other than Inoki in "The Bad News Bears", the only one I can think of is a Sonny Chiba movie whose name I can't remember that had Giant Baba (it might have been called "Assassin").

Nothing beats Piper in "They Live", though...
