I was introduced to puroresu through Fire Pro and Virtual Pro Wrestling, but I just started to order tapes in the last year and a half. I have a few questions if you guys have some time. Feel free to tell me I am a moron.
1. Regarding heels and faces, the fans seem to really cheer for people they respect. So how do you recognize the heels? I mean Tenzan and Chono are heels right? What about Kawada though, is he considered a heel? Moreover, I assume Mutoh is a face, but I saw him in a tag match against Lyger and Nakanishi and he seemed to be playing a heel.
2. Obviously, I have no idea what is usually said in the post match interviews. What do the wrestlers generally say? I mean they always seem so calm and reserved when discussing the win or loss.
3. I have never bought any NOAH tapes; do they put on good shows? Like AJ style with Misawa, Akiyama, Taue, Kobashi? Or is the roster older now and not as good?
Hi. Welcome to the board. I'll try and answer these questions as best as I can, but in all honesty, the rest of the guys on this board will help out also with all your Puroresu questions:
Regarding heels and faces, the fans seem to really cheer for people they respect. So how do you recognize the heels? I mean Tenzan and Chono are heels right? What about Kawada though, is he considered a heel? Moreover, I assume Mutoh is a face, but I saw him in a tag match against Lyger and Nakanishi and he seemed to be playing a heel.
It all depends on the fans, from the experiance and things I've been told. Most fans appreciate good talent and above all else, honesty and integrity. Which is partly the reason why Muto is being booed, etc. etc. Apparently the best way to identify a heel is someone who is not co-operative, or insults a wrestler in the ring. Good example being if at the end of the match, a wrestler slaps the other wrestler in the face, there's your dishonourability between wrestlers... or summit like that
Obviously, I have no idea what is usually said in the post match interviews. What do the wrestlers generally say? I mean they always seem so calm and reserved when discussing the win or loss.
Usually they talk about what went on in the match and usually what plans they have for the future matches, at a guess. Gado and Jado usually bad mouth everyone, and Sumo Fuji is just a funny son of a gun.... but depending on what wrestler it is, the speeches are varied.
I have never bought any NOAH tapes; do they put on good shows? Like AJ style with Misawa, Akiyama, Taue, Kobashi? Or is the roster older now and not as good?
I have no idea. I ain't seen that much NOAH... but from I have seen, it's a much more charismatic version of All Japan. And it's very good.... No Fear are outstanding, and all I can say about Omori is GIVE THAT MAN THE TITLE....
I may be wrong here, but I think in Puroresu, the distinctions between a face and a heel are not as black and white as they are in Sports Entertainment. Hard work and talent will get you applause, even if you are supposed to be a bad *** heel. As Benji says, public signs of disrespect usually can get heat.
