I've been a fan or puroresu for almost 7 years now, but without knowing the language I've always been curious about a few things.
I've never once seen a disqualification or countout. Does that rules exist or do they just never book it so that there is a DQ.
I've noticed that wrestlers normally have working wrestlers in street clothes in their corner. Are they supposed to be trainers, managers, or moral support?
Do men & women ever wrestle one another?
Gajins are usually heels, right?
And finally, what's the deal with theme music. Sometimes I hear it during main events, and then I get some tapes that just dub in generic rock.
since Im the clueless beginner around here I will take my best shot at answering them. Im open to criticisim. I gotta get better if Im ever gonna take ove... um I mean contribute to this forum
They dont happen much, they usually happen in the states as part of an angle or storyline, not much call for that sort of thing in japan
Wrestlers are accompanied to the ring by their "seconds" usually young or trainee wrestlers.
Sometimes if a wrestler is wrestling in an outside organisation they will bring better know wrestlers as their seconds, usually for moral support ect
On occasion, mixed tag matches happen from time to time too
Gajin's often play a role similar to that of a heel, usually as the unstopable monster that will eventually be beaten by the japanese hero
Maybe the peeps that made your tapes dubbed the music themselves cause they just dont appreciate japanese entrance music (which I love myself). sorta like those tapes with ICP commentary dubbed on them. Man they suck.

As pro-wrestling is taken more seriuosly in Japan than in the US, the rules are clearer there. Of course, we have DQ and COR rules, but fans don't wanna see the matches ending with those rules. Before late 80s, there were SO MANY matches that ended with DQ or COR, but (probably) because of the UWF's shoot-style influence in late 80s, All Japan and New Japan stop doing too many DQ/COR endings.
I was encouraged when WCW hired Johnny Ace, because they stated that in Johnny's entire booking career he had only 1 run-in finish and no DQs. But like many other things in my life I was disappointed there too.
How are the Japanese able to take so many head bumps into the mat? I mean, so many of the matches I see they're head is intentionally drilled into the mat. It's amazing.
Was there a memorial card for Terry Gordy in Japan?
