A true legend passed away due to an injury which was caused during a match in Hiroshima on 2009/06/13.
He was teaming with Go Shiozaki to challenge the GHC Tag Team champions Akitoshi Saito & Bison Smith. Akitoshi hit a high-angled back suplex. The ref asked Misawa whether he could move, and Misawa responded by saying no.
The ref stopped the match at 27:03. There was a doctor in the audience (they didn't have one at ringside like New Japan does!?) who tried heart massage. All the NOAH wrestlers (plus Yoshihiro Takayama and Kensuke Sasaki who were also on the card) came into the ring. The heart massage brought back some pulse, and he was carried into a hospital but never came back.
I had a chance to see him live when he wrestled for ROH at the Manhattan Center back in 2007. There was a LONG line from the venue all the way to the other side of the block. I was never a big fan of his but am glad I went to see the card.
(EDIT: Originally, it was reported on one of the Japanese websites as it was a heart failure, but it was most likely a head and/or spine trauma. At this point, no official statement has been made on the actual cause of his death.)

RIP.
Hisa, I'm still in shock, and in tears right now as I write this. Misawa was the reason I got into watching puro. His triple crown defense against Dr Death Steve Williams, which was broadcasted in Chicago on Cable channel 19 some years back piqued my curiosity and my love for what all true Puro fans called, real wrestling.
I've began to collect many pure DVD's from different federations, but now I am concentrating on some good Midsawa DVD's now. I'd like to send a love call of condolences and prayers to his family, his friends, the NOAH family and all of the other Misawa fans out there. I also thank the Misawa family for sharing a man who should be in somebody's wrestling hall of fame with not just Japan, but the world.
Domo Arigato, Misawa-San. Vaya con Dios.

I just read this over on the Sports & Wrestling board and am devastated over this. Like I said over there the only two other wrestling deaths that I can remember that had me feeling this way were Owen Hart and Bam Bam Bigelow.
Too early to speculate but I wonder if AJ makes a comeback now with all the tragedies that have been hitting Noah as of late.
I'm going to spend tonight watching Misawa and Jumbo matches. Wrestling clinics. Brilliant wrestler.
R.I.P. Mitsuharu Misawa. One of THE best in THE world!
Don't know if it'll show on this message, but thats a pic of Misawa and myself at a WLW show. He was one of my favs, and this is as bad as Eddy Guerrero for me.It was one of my dreams to wrestle for Misawa in NOAH. Isn't Kobashi VP of NOAH? Will he take over????
R.I.P. Mitsuharu Misawa aka Tiger Mask II aka the Emerald Spartan.
According to the announcement made by the Hiroshima Prefectural Police, the cause of Misawa's death was a cervical spinal cord injury. The damage was made when he was suplexed by Akitoshi.
He had been suffering with a cervical vertebrae injury and was recently complaining the pains in his shoulder, back, and elbow.
NOAH announced that it would continue the tour because Misawa would have wanted it that way.
Akitoshi said he thought about retiring but would "carry any cross". He was already crying as he entered the match on the following day, and after the match, he made an apology to the photo of Misawa. Fans showed a huge respect to Akitoshi for continuing to wrestle.
So medically speaking, how did the injury kill him? I guess you said they kinda revived him in the ring, did the injury just cut off the nerves to his heart? Just wondered how that would work....I'm still stunned about it. WWE and more specifically Johnny Ace issued a statement on WWE.com.
That's what I wondered. They didn't have the TV deal anymore, so that isn't gonna change I don't think. I posted earlier that I though Kenta Kobashi was the VP of NOAH. I'd figure he'd be next in line to run the show. I'm almost 100% positive that NOAH will tread on. AJPW survived without Baba, and Misawa would want things to go on.
On a side, yet similar note, I heard Misawa's partner in the match, Go Shiozaki is GHC champion now. There were a few Japanese tributes on Youtube.com but I can't read or speak Japanese, so I don't know what was going on. It was still sad though.
VP is Mitsuo Momota. Dunno whether he'll be the president or not. Other top executives include Ryu Nakada (ring announcer), Haruka Eigen, and Ken'ichi Oyagi (formerly with the sports dept. of Nippon TV). Inside directors are Taue, Kobashi, and Ogawa.
Here's a couple of photos from the latest edition of Weekly Puroresu (courtesy of Kakutou Log):
I was completely floored when I heard the news about Misawa... His is one of the names I never thought I'd hear as leaving us so soon.
I really hope that NOAH can hold it together after this tragic accident.
Rest in Peace, Misawa.
Proud enough for you to call me arrogant
Greedy enough to be labeled a thief
Angry enough for me to go and hurt a man
Cruel enough for me to feel no grief...
man, the crazy part is that in the pictures...... I've seen him take WORSE moves than that.
I hope Saito doesn't think this is his fault. I remember Darren Drozdov (sp??) was saying how when he broke his neck getting a running Liger Bomb from D-Lo Brown, he had to convince D-Lo not to retire.
To El Pollo:
The surprise is overwhelming. I was going through my old PS2 games yesterday and saw the cover of King of Colosseum 2. If you've never seen it, the cover is all white with the logo across the top and Muto,Chono, Misawa, and Hashimoto all in suits on the cover. Kinda surreal.
I was thinking about my first Misawa match. It was tacked on to the end of an FMW Tape I had ordered from the horrible wrestling imporium. It was Vader's Triple Crown VS him It was a nice change of pace from the wackiness that was to be seen earlier in said tape (the tape in question was a 1999 FMW so YES there was a LOT of stupidity)

First of all, check these out before they will be probably removed next Monday (3rd and 16th photo). Almost had tears in my eyes. This is one of the reasons I still love this "sport".
Misawa wanted to retire before the end of the year and start a new business. He's been wanting to quit at least for past three years, but his popularity wouldn't let him. You could see him very unmotivated in his recent matches (though he still devliered good matches anyway). Very sad.

My point exactly. That's why I didn't mind posting those photos.

Nah..., I don't think so. Read one of my previous posts. He's getting a lot of cheers from the audience since the incident because the fans know he decided to shoulder a burden instead of quitting.
