On the Christmas Day of 2010, there were ten wrapped randoseru left at the front door of the Gunma Prefectural Child Guidance Center in Maebashi. The packages, said to be worth about 300,000yen total (about US$3,660 as of the date of posting), were left with a memo saying "Please use these for the children". The employees of the Guidance Center decided to use them for the orphanage kids who will be entering the elementary schools this coming April when the Japanse academic year starts.
The memo was signed "Naoto Date" with no address or any other contact information.
So, who is "Naoto Date"? Those who are really into old anime should recognize his name right away.
"Naoto Date" was the main character in the original "Tiger Mask" cartoon. In the story, Naoto, who wrestles under the mask, contributes most of his money he received from wrestling to the orphanage at which he grew up...without telling the kids that he is the masked wrestler they always watch on TV.
