Since we are talking about the greatest gaijin ever, here's an
interesting(?) information.
There was a poll among longtime Japanese fans on one of Showa Puroresu
websites for the "wrestler and tag team that you wanna hand down to
the 21st century". Here's the Top 10 Gaijin Wrestlers:
1: Fritz von Erich
2: Stan Hansen
3: Don Leo Jonathan
4: Andre the Giant
5: Harley Race
Nick Bockwinkel
7: Abdullah the Butcher
Crusher Lisowski
9: Bobo Brazil
10: Tiger Jeet Singh
Volk Han and Mil Mascaras should also be mentioned I think as influential foreigners wrestling-stylewise, even if they're probably not as popular as most of the other gaijin listed.
Can anyone provide some info on "Crusher Lisowski"? I've never heard of the guy, I just hope it isn't another name for "Crusher Bam Bam Bigelow"
Reggie "Crusher" Lisowski was the original Crusher from the 50s-70s. After him there was Crusher Blackwell and then Crusher Yurkov, who is Bam Bam Bigelow (the "Crusher" was added by New Japan, remember Japanese promoters can't make sense of English so they can't tell the difference if he has two nicks).
There are alot of greats to chose from. But when it comes down to the greatest how can you chose anyone else but "The Unsunk Battle Ship" "The Western Lariat" STAN HANSEN!!!
If I had to pick just one, I would probably have to go with Vader. He won more World Titles than any other gaijin, works with the best of them(especially considering he's 450) and has that intangible essence commonly called "it." Vader has been in just about every major in Japan through the 80s and 90s and headlined in them all.
