I'm a wrestler-in-training, just learning his chops here in NWA-ECCW. I'd like to know what indy feds in Japan you guys think breed the best talent - at least, the hakujin-friendly ones.
Exactly how high-flying is Toryumon's style? I'm 32 already, and I have a hard time picturing myself doing a moonsault. Suplexes up the wazoo, yes. Space Flying Tiger Drop... no.
And, I promise I will not try to pass myself onto anyone in Japan until I am at least half-decent already. I'd say I'm about quarter-decent at the moment.
What about the NJPW L.A. Dojo? I don't really know anything about it myself, but I've heard it mentioned a few times. Seems that a Dojo here in the U.S. would be a better option than actually travelling to Japan.
Actually, i believe that the NJPW L.A. Dojo is established to train "shooter-wrestlers" cuz Inoki likes'em that way!
Calum Macbeth, if you're into that, then you should give it a try. Otherwise, i don't see why you can't go over to our neighbor province Alberta and train in Hart's Dungeon.
I've heard mixed reviews on The Dungeon. But my question is Japan-specific. My spouse may be taking a job in Gifu, or Sapporo, or heck-knows-where. She and I are looking at Tokyo as a possible eventual destination.
For now, I'm just putting out some feelers for information on where in Japan (or for Japan) I might be able to develop my craft at a higher level, if and when I get that far. Inoki's LA dojo sounds interesting.
Any info on dojos and indies is welcome and appreciated.
Does anyone know of any dojos in Sapporo worth considering? Or anything resembling a pro-wrestling scene? I see mention of a fed called "Asian Sports," but I can't find anything on them.

Well, Toryumon Japan has a spotty, highflying style with japanese style matwork as transition.
T2P is based on elaborate lucha matwork with occasional highspots.
If you were to be accepted by Ultimo Dragon, you'd most likely be training for the upcoming Toryumon X, which is, I THINK, supposed to be more heavyweight based. Don't take my word for this, though.
Consider, however, that if you work with Toryumon, you'd probably do a fair amount of wrestling in Mexico as well as Japan.
Oh yeah, you can also try Hayabusa's WMF as they are hiring many wrestlers. However, there are rumours that they are not treating foreigners too kindly, so you decide.
And then there's the newly opened Dojo Riki, opened by Riki Choshu...
This is a little late, but I just read your post...
Sorry for the late response, but being Japan specific and STILL being in North America, the best way to go is probably with the Pro Wrestlign Iron school in northern California run by Mickael Modest and Donovan Morgan. It has a working agreement with Pro Wrestling NOAH.You may want to visit www.puroresupower.com,as Zach Arnold's site has had listed a special mentioning the web site and a special introductory deal into the school. This is probably also the contact currently to get into Japan for work in the ring.
