There has been a confusion over "Intercontinental Tag Team Titles" in Japan. Let me clear it up.

Intercontinental Tag Team Title (Michinoku)
Originally the UWA Intercontinental Tag Team Title recognized by the old Universal Pro in early 90s. The title was revived by Michinoku Pro this year for the Michinoku Futaritabi 2001 Tag Team League, won by Dick Togo & Gedo. Currently held by SASUKE & Sasuke the Great.

N.W.A. Intercontinental Tag Team Title
Recognized by Shin'ya Hashimoto's ZERO-ONE organization. After ZERO-ONE broke up with Yuuki Ishikawa's Battlarts group, the title, held by Ishikawa & Shinjiro Ohtani, was automatically(?) vacant. There were some reports that the winners of Michinoku Futaritabi 2001 Tag Team League were the new champs, but it was for a different title.
Shinjiro Ohtani & Masato Tanaka and UPW's Tom Howard & Samoa Joe will meet for the NWA title on 2002/01/06 at ZERO-ONE's Kourakuen Hall card.

Indeed, Tanaka and Ohtani did win the match. I believe it was with a Cobra Hold.
