Is Magnum TOKYO hurting Dragon's Gate?

When Ultimo Dragon left Toryumon, he left Magnum TOKYO partially in charge (or at least that's my understanding). Since then, I've heard some talk that Magnum is damaging the promotion by using fruity dance numbers and pushing himself over fresher, promising members. I was just wondering if anyone else felt this way.

I personally don't think he's taken DG into too far the wrong direction. After all, DG is most popular with young people, including girls. Wouldn't it make sense to have production numbers to garner their interest? As for pushing himself over others, yeah, I guess Magnum has done that, but I still think CIMA is the biggest draw for DG over all others.

Looking forward to hearing what you guys think.

When you get the book the first thing you do is push yourself harder than you have ever been pushed before. Dusty did it. Flair did it. Eric Embry did it. Misawa did it. Sasuke did it. Chono is still doing it. No real surprise there. Someone in the dojo forgot to tell Liger apparently.

It's no secret that Dragon Gate's main audience is teen-early 20s girls. They come to see hot guys show skin and show how flexible they are...er...do highspots. Considering that he is, you know, a stripper and all, it makes sense that he would be at the top of the card, since his gimmick embodies everything the company does to make money. I haven't seen any of his recent dancing, so I can't comment on it being fruity or not. However, girls do like gay guys, so if he's a stripper and acts gay that probably appeals to the target demographic.

It is still far too soon to consider if he's really pushing himself too hard. He could just be trying to establish his new fruitbooty main event persona. Now if it gets to the point that Misawa's and Sasuke's booking got, that's a problem. But I'm pretty sure that CIMA's record against TOKYO is a little better than say, Kawada's against Misawa. I don't know of a new guy that is ready to take that spot anyway, so as long as you're the booker and there's no one better to push, you might as well pay yourself main event money.

Even on Dragon's Gate you still need to have a sense of timing of when to bust out the highspots. That is just as important for that type of worker as learning psychology is for a traditional heavyweight. And Magnum has timing.
