Everyone except GAEA is joining together for a big show 5-11-03 at Yokohama Arena. you can read about it at http://www.puroresupower.com/upload/news.cgi?news=15 or http://www.ichibanpuroresu.com/index2.html if you want. This is a great idea but I would feel better if someone other than Hiroshi Ogawa was behind it. There is lots of ways to fill out this card I hope they don't duck the dream matches out of fear.
The original Dreamslams had good build-up for their top matches, notably with the Dreamslam show, which made for great heat.
Ogawa and co. better start moving soon...
Building on the 10th anniversary of the Dreamslam shows, the feds involved really have a great opportunity to bring all joshi fans (including the lapsed ones) together for celebration of the glory years and a showcase for today and tomorrow's talent (like the original Dreamslams did in their day). That means they can't just have an ordinary show (albeit an interpromotional one) and just slap the Dreamslam tag on it. Sure, they'll have to give us some interpromotional dream matches, but I don't think that's the only ingredient they need for Dreamslam 3 to be worthy of its name.
In my mind, they need to use the opportunity to commemorate the original Dreamslam shows and all their legendary matchups and also to celebrate the history of Joshi wrestling. That's why I'd like to see the following done.
- Bring back as many of the still-active wrestlers who took part in the original shows. It'll allow the stars of those original shows to bask in the glory of some of their finest hours, and see how far others have come since.
-That means trying to get the free-agents from GAEA to participate If Dreamslam 3 gathers sufficient attention and is seen as a legitimate and sincere celebration of Joshi and the original shows, the likes of Manami and Aja might feel they can't miss out on it.
-Invite the GAEA wrestlers who were involved (including Chigusa) to attend and participate in a non-wrestling function. GAEA'll look bad if they refuse, and who knows they might be persuaded to participate after all (though that might make the show's booking somewhat difficult...).
-FOREMOST: Do whatever it takes to have Akira Hokuto involved in whatever capacity she is able and willing for. How great would it be to see Hokuto involved somehow in Kandori's match at Dreamslam 3? The only thing greater than that would be to see her return to the ring (not imposible) alongside LCO or make a surprise challenge for the Momoe's WWWA singles belt... and win it
-Celebrate each fed's history and participation in the original shows: maybe have some retirement ceremonies for some of the Dreamslam stars (Bull Nakano?) or some recent retirees, maybe honour Plum's memory in some way?
As for the matches... I'd love to see Kyoko Inoue either team again with Takako or join forces with Kayo or Nanae to take on Takako and Eagle or Nabe-chan.
And no triple threat cage death match between Awesome Kong, Rossy Ogawa and Yumiko Hotta, please.
It's nice to dream but you don't seriously expect Ogawa to do any of that stuff, do you? Amazing Kong is his female Bob Sapp and no matter how stupid it is he's going to give her this big push. Don't forget Shark is involved now. Ugh! One thing that I think they will do at this show is ASARI's retirement ceremony. There's no way Chigusa is going to allow anyone from GAEA to participate so you can forget that. Remember who is in charge here. Ogawa thinks he's a comedian but like Inoki, no one thinks he's funny.
Not really But from a purely pragmatic point of view, I like my idea of publicly inviting the GAEA wrestlers involved in the original shows to attend. At least, Chigusa would no longer have the excuse that the Dreamslam tag is just an empty ploy. As I said, if they refuse it makes them look bad and helps create some controversy and heat around the event and as long as its done correctly, the bigger the event becomes, the more incentive the free agents will have to participate.
It never hurts to sow a few seeds of discord among the opposition, and it certainly makes more sense than sending Yumiko Hotta to openly challenge Aja at GAEA shows...
If she has to be involved, Amazing Kong can stand in for Terri Power
But Chigusa already looks bad by not participating. Look, Chigusa is a paranoid psycho nutcase. If she had any sense, she would participate in this just for the good of the business as a whole. *** forbid she should think of anyone but herself. It shows in her booking too. I think that Dreamslam IS an empty tag because to Ogawa it's just another gimmick. I don't blame her for not trusting Ogawa but her presence might keep him honest.I didn't see anyone else at that table who can keep him under control. Like you said, maybe some of the GAEA veterans can talk some sense into her but I doubt it. She's very stubborn.
I'm not so sure GAEA is totally out of it. Their December 1st show drew 810 in a 4000 seat building. If their December 15th show doesn't draw Chigusa may take another look at what she is missing. I can understand her not wanting to give Rossy control of her talent but she may be agreeable to sending one or two all-GAEA matches to add to the card and get a slice of the profit. At least that's the way I hope it plays out because GAEA participation adds a lot to this card and means we stand a lesser chance of getting Amazing Kong vs Kaori Yoneyama
