Something seems to be rotten in the queendom of joshi
With all the stuff I've been hearing, I'm not quite sure what to think yet, but given the relatively precarious state of joshi puroresu, ARSION certainly seem to be indulging in an excessive amount of wastage at a critical time...
Whatever the reason for Chama's leaving ARSION, money, booking (they could surely have arranged some acceptable way of losing the title, even if it included dropping it to Momoe in a WWWA champ vs QoA match and then have AKINO or whoever retrieve the title from AJW), loss of booking power, or depression as I believe "Classy" Ogawa said, she won't have many options left open. Especially after they spent so much time building her up and preserving her...
Free-lancing? Her independent standing is probably barely superior to Ayako Hamada's...
Go to GAEA? She would fit in nicely with D-FIX or LCO (time to check whether they are such close buddies ), but surely even Chigusa can't bankroll THAT many wrestlers with high demands, can she?
How much you wanna bet that Chama was at the GAEA show later that day in the same building? She's gotta be joining D-FIX. That's the only thing that makes any sense.
...My understanding it that Ohmukai was still Queen of ARSION. Is this correct? If so,has anyone heard an announcement about the status of the title? I don't think it will happen,but I'd hate to see the title in limbo just like the TWF Title from J'd that Lioness Asuka hasn't defended in a VERY long time.
So ;
1) What will happen to the QoA title and
2) Why hasn't J'd asked for the TWF Title back or at the very least,why hasn't Asuka defended the title?
Here is what she said on the Arsion website in Babelfish/English-"With this day, Arsion retreating/quitting group is done and you return also the belt." for what it's worth. She was also at the 5th anniversary party the next night so I assume she returned the belt and quit on good terms if she did quit. I believe she has a role as a villian in the playgirl movie so she may have lined up another acting job and needed the time off stranger things have happened. I think you'll see that belt around Akino's waist before too long unless he wants to put it on Yoshida and let her chase it for a while. He really doesn't have a lot of options other then Akino that I see.
I love Akino,but I really feel that Yoshida deserves another run as QoA. I also feel a good build up with Akino eventually winning the belt would be the best way to go.I feel you're right though,as Rossy Ogawa doesn't have too many viable opitions as who should be champion,...unless he decides to put the belt back around the waist of Lioness Asuka. Losing Aja Kong,Yumi Fukawa,Ayako Hamada and even hopeful Miyuki Maeda and the firing of Yu Yamagata as well as Ohmukai over the course of the last two years has been a painful experience for ARSION.
Hey,when was the last time free-lancer Hiromi Yagi even worked for ARSION? I think she may have recently worked a single show OR I may have seen her listed for the upcoming th Anniversary show for ARSION. But she is such a talent that she was a HUGE loss for JWP when she retired do to being married back in '98 I believe. She has a great sense of timing that many just don't ever develop. Of course,her background in Judo may have something to do with this.
But getting back to what to do with the title, I wonder if the will have a tournament or a single match between top contenders to determine who will be the next champion. If GAMI returned to the physical condition she was two years ago(she gotten better though) and wasn't such a comedy worker,she chould have a worthwhile oppertunity. She IS quite funny and is also quite technically sound,but its hard to take a comedy worker seriously as a company's top title holder.
I hope ARSION can get back on track to where they were for the first 2 1/2 years of their existance,as they were kind of a joshi version of Battlarts. They had easily become my favorite joshi promotion. I still usually get to see a great match or two on their shows,but there was a point where I liked almost everything they produced. It kind of reminds me of GAEA Japan, as for the first two years of their existance,...I liked almost everything they did,but in late '97 everthing went to "el stinko",but ARSION hasn't dropped to that level yet and hopfully not at all.
There has to be a better way to have a title change hands. I think one of the more respectible things I have seen in wrestling is when Taz left ECW to become Tazz he went back and dropped the belt to Dreamer. Champions owe it to the fans, the organizations and their own legacy to do the right thing and lose the belt. Just one mans opinion.
Zach Arnold is reporting the winner of the ARS tournament next month will get the title belt. I think it's a pretty safe bet it's going to be Akino judging from the results and cards they have on their website. If I had my way I'd let Yoshida hold it a few months and let Akino chase her to get the big breakthough win since the Lioness couldn't do it yesterday or stick Momoe in the tourny to win it and have Akino win it right back that would give them both big wins and set up a good rivalry. It's a shame that Ogawa didn't know Chama was leaving in time for the Zion tournament by changing the result of the finals he could have established Akino as Arsion's top star and then put the belt on her December but I guess it doesn't really matter. Arsion's fans already see her as a top star and if they don't then there won't be an Arsion much longer anyway.
