With the bottom being about to fall out of Zenjo, I'm really wondering how it's going to affect whatever's left of joshi puroresu
Everything seems to be pointing to Momoe going freelance and a number of others following suit. It does make sense in that it will allow them to wrestle on their own terms and that A to Z and GAEA probably don't have enough financial muscle or incentive to absorb them all anyway.
But how many freelancers can the industry have and what role can they play?
Older wrestlers such as Itoh, Maekawa or Watanabe could probably fit in well as mercenaries coming in to give the odd push, but I have doubts concerning Momoe.
She would constitute a draw of sorts and would probably be in demand as a freelancer, but how well could she maintain her fanbase if she's not fulltime with one fed and being used to put ultimately put over talent for GAEA or AtoZ?
So what do you think will happen? Will Momoe become a real freelancer, take up quasi-permanent residence in a fed or freelance occasionally and try and make it as an idoru?
Momoe will probably freelance for a while. The rumour that won't go away is that New Japan is starting a joshi fed and will build it around Michiko Ohmukai & Momoe Nakanishi. If this comes to pass, it won't start for another year. The wrestlers should keep their options open in the meantime.
