I have been reading up alot on the Joshi scene and how things have progressed over the last few years. It seems to me,and I know this is stating the obvious here, that the Vets seem to becoming more and more selfish in recent years.
Kyoko Inoue, Lioness Asuka,Chigusa Nagayo, and so on, are constantly puting themselves over the young talent, and I guess my reason for writing this is to ask: why?
The Vets have been hugely over for years, especially the Crush Gals, Why do they feel the need to put themselves over so much?? I realise that some of the youngsters are still learning, but alot of them seem to be solid workers, and they just can't get a break with the older people.
I wish I could make sense of it all, I mean nowadays it seems pointless for the Younger workers to even bother wrestling, considering that they way things are booker currently, they have no chance of getting anywhere until the older people retire, and then who knows if they will be ready for it.
With GAEA and AtoZ now seemingly in the drivers seat, and the once proud giants Zenjo and JWP about to take the plunge into oblivion, Joshi Puroresu's future seems in doubt.
Is there any hope out there? I know New Japan is planing a Joshi Division, but when????? and what can we expect from it????
The answer to your question is they do it because they can. Wrestlers as bookers are usually selfish. So what else is new? What we fail to understand as joshi fans around the world is that the Japanese fans like the nostalgia of the older wrestlers getting over. So I don't expect that trend to stop. The other problem is the joshi feds are having a lot of trouble developing young talent. That isn't improving at all. Most of the young girls that have debuted in the last couple of years haven't been very good. I don't like this any more than you do but I expect it to continue. BTW, the proposed New Japan joshi fed isn't expected to get off the ground for at least another year. The rumours have Michiko Ohmukai & Momoe Nakanishi being the main players there. I think that there is some truth to that.
