I have just seen her famous match with Shinobu Kandori on Dreamslam I (dreamslam II is forthcoming), and.... Wow. I have never, EVER seen that much blood in a women's match ever. I've seen it on the men forever, but to see it on a woman who doesn't stop for any (most) pain, it's.... Inspiring stuff. I'm starting to understand why many totally worship her. Hell, I think I'll start a Dangerous Queen shrine myself. I already know of her wrestling with a broken neck.
After I saw that, I got to thinking. I've watched the WWE for a long time. If Vince tried to put the moves on the Dangerous Queen, do you think she'd just agree to do it 'cause he's Vince McMahon, like other "Divas" have? If Eric Bischoff forced himself on her, would he live with a broken limb? Would he live at all? These are the thoughts that ran through my head as I absorbed that classic.
Akira obviously isn't the kind of woman who'd be intimidated by crazy billionaire pervs. It's either like it or up yours. As I learn more about her, I honestly don't know why the US doesn't have more wrestlers like her, with all do respect to the talent we have. I think that it would send a better message of what a woman can be, other than toy. Agree?
That Match was the first AJW match I ever saw, I downloaded it months before I got my DVDs. It has to be the greatest Joshi match of all time. Hokuto really impressed me like no one(man or woman) ever has, I don't think anyone could do that again, especially the way Joshi is going nowadays.
If Vince or Bischoff pulled any funny stuff with her, they would come away with a bloody stump, the is no doubt in my mind that she wouldn't tolerate that sort of bull. If the world had more wrestlers like her, then Joshi Puroresu would finally be given the respect it deserves as a sport. I'll tell you something, even my wife was impressed with Hokuto, and she hates wrestling, so that tells you what the world would be like if there were more like her
I'll go you one better Daish, if you put Akira in there with a Molly Holly, Lita or even Jazz she would out wrestle them hands down. Don't get me wrong the WWE has some talented divas on the roster, but you add Hokuto to that, you would have some class, and a WWE Women's Champion who would bring respect to the title.
As far as Joshi Puro, I agree with you Daish, if there were a few more like her (or in that fact Momoe Nakanishi and Ayako Hamada), Joshi Puro would get the very elusive respect it deserves.
OASN: We all know Kensuke Sasaki (mr. Akira Hokuto, LOL) would beat Vince or Eric down if they pulled anything with her.
"I'm not going to call an ambulance, because if I do you will have learned nothing"-Family Guy
Darn right she would out wrestle them, They aren't even in the same ball park as her. And Yes, she would do for that title what Bull Nakano had a chance to do for it. And We know Kensuke would beat Vince and Eric up, but only after she was done with them haha.
If you still need any convincing that Akira IS as tough as nails and can fight legit, check out the return match against Kandori at the 06/12/93 Saint Final.
Classic too, for other reasons though.
Akira's dedication to perfection in her art comes way ahead of her sense of self-preservation and any respect for authority: she legitimately flips AJW commissioner Shinji Ueda off when he tries to get her to stop after smashing her knee in her 1990 GP match with Manami.
If anyone pulled a fast one on her, I'm sure they'd end up in a Stranglehold Gamma or at the wrong end of one of those straight punches she threw at Kandori.
Part of her legacy is also what she passed on in terms of training and sense of dedication to wrestlers such as Mima Shimoda, Etsuko Mita or Manami Toyota.
If only she could have been brought to the States to instill some of that...
The Dangerous Queen is also probably THE most intense and compelling inring performer for my money, and a great source of inspiration for men and women in terms of what can be told and done in a ring, and in terms of what a female wrestling persona can be. She reminds me a lot of the Dynamite Kid, even greater than him in some respects.
Heck, even Chigusa says she respects Akira, and she's not known to be a very respectful person

First Hokuto match I ever saw was Hokuto/Shimoda/Mita vs. Bennett/Ito/Yoshida AJW 6/27/95. All the other wrestlers were familiar to me except Hokuto. I immediately loved her and been a fan ever since. She did the most powerful NLB to Yoshida I've ever seen. It's amazing Yoshida's neck didn't broke.
Dreamslam matches against Kandori were amazing. Has anyone seen the match where Hokuto and Kandori wrestle against Kong and Nakano? I think it was in Queendom II. They fight with each other at first but then we see Kandori saving Hokuto from a pinfall.
I wanna recommend one match to you all (if you haven't seen it):
Hokuto/Shimoda/Mita/ vs. Handa/Saito/Sawai AJW 1/24/93
After the match Hokuto and Kandori yell at each other in the ring, then Hokuto slaps Shimoda and Mita and screams at them (I don't know why) and then goes again to scream at Kandori in the locker room. Just look at her eyes when she confronts Kandori in the locker room.
