Thumbs up New to japanese women wrestling(Sorta)

In 2001 a friend of my moms let me borrow two fmw wrestling tapes. And i have to say that it was the greatest thing that could have happened to me cuz i probably wouldn't have discovered these hard working females. First tape was king of the deathmatch. I was not impressed at first, ok i wasn't all too impressed at all. Then there was a womens match, very close to the main event. I mean what is this?! That never happens in american wrestling. If it does it's just a filler. I don't know what it was but I was so drawn into this match, from start to finish. It's like i could feel the emotion, most of those emotions and tears could not be faked. I had no idea who i was watching but yet i felt what it was all about. Of course it was the megumi kudo vs combat toyoda match. Toyodas retirement match. The powerbombs they pulled out were text book, and they did it in a way that no one actually got hurt too much. The moves were executed so perfectly, it was fluid. What surprised me was after the match, the backstage footage when megumi and toyoda touched hands and megumi started bawling her eyes out. Tears started comin down my face. I have never cried over a wrestling match up until that point.

The other tape i got from him was torn to shreds, an all female wrestling tape. Loved it. The megumi and shark main event was great, i fell in love with megumi right away. Became a fan of hers instantly, the cute outfit, her charisma just pours out and she doesn't even do much taunting or catering. Sadly with internet searches i found out she retired long before. But it didn't matter i was so glad i found this stuff. Later i picked up a video with megumis last match on it, yomaha deathmatch. Didn't impress me as much as the electrified barb-wire match but i'm glad i have her last match in my possesion. Then I discovered manami toyota another beauty with talent to match.

Recently i've picked up the king of the death match tape again(I missed that match so **** much) And i found a site that lets me personlize a video with matches i want(just put in internet searches you'll find good stuff) I think the best japanese womens matches are from the early 90's, so heres the matches i chose to put on the tape.

    Aja Kong Vs Manami Toyota
Akira Hokuto vs. Shinobu Kandori(From Dream slam 1)
Manami Toyota vs. Toshiyo Yamada in a "Hair Match"
Manami Toyota & Toshiyo Yamada vs. Dynamite Kansai & Mayumi Ozaki(2/3 Falls)
Manami Toyota & Toshiyo Yamada vs. Megumi Kudo & Combat Toyota(Both Matches) Any match with megumi kudo and manami toyota in the same ring, it has to be good!!
Manami Toyota vs. Kyoko Inoue(I am so interested in this one cuz it was a 60 min draw, they had to have given it everything they had)
    Megumi Kudo Vs Shark(barb-wire match)
Combat Toyoda & Megumi Kudo Vs Etsuko Mita & Mima Shimoda

I Have not seen any of those matches except the megumi and shark one. I am so excited, i know i'm in for a treat. I can't wait till the video arrives. I've gotten so fed up with WwE, i need somethin that's gonna fufill my wrestling needs, and i think this is the way to go.

    Welcome to Joshi Puroresu.

It was only a few years ago that I myself got seriously interesting in Joshi, Kudo was the one that brought me in too. But I was sort of a fan already because I remember Bull Nakano when she was in the WWF, and I thought she was great too. about a year ago I got my first Joshi DVDs, and I have been hooked ever since, the only thing that sucks is how far the scene has fallen, and most of my favorite stars have retired now.

You picked alot of good matches, my personal favorite is the Hokuto/Kandori match from Dreamslam. That was the first AJW match I ever saw, I got it off of Kazaalite one day and it impressed the hell out of me, and I knew I had to get that show. I have not been disappointed by any dvd I have gotten yet, even the 1990 Fight Main Event ( though the Aja/Madusa streetfight didn't impress me, the rest of the show was pretty good to me). I recommend in future that you buy complete shows, because you never know what kind of matches you are missing by buying only the best matches, thats why I never buy comps unless it has a match that I can't find anywhere else. One man's poison is another man's treasure, alot of the experts might not like a match that you might enjoy, it all comes down to personal taste.

    Thumbs up Review

Ok my tape arrived today, and i've been watching it all day pretty much. Like 3 or 4 hours of complete wrestling action!!! Let me start by saying all these matches are lonnnnnng! But it's cool, cuz there was never a dull moment. I was never like this

Tape started off with a bang! Akira Hokuto vs. Shinobu Kandori(From Dream slam 1)
And let me say they started off slow, then picked up the pace, quickly turned into a blood bath. Akira whole face was crimson. I enjoyed it but i felt i needed to know the history of it to really enjoy it. Great quality pic.

Second match was also from dream slam 1.
Manami Toyota/Toshiyo Yamada Vs Megumi Kudo/Combat Toyoda
Let me say when i finally got over manamis ridiculous outfit i really was enjoying this match(Ok ok i know this was in like 92 hahaha) Sorry but toyota sorta looked like a blue and pink chicken. You could see megumis fire in this match, everytime yamada would start kicking her she wouldn't flinch, she would stand right there and take them and fight right back. Mean while toyota got her butt whipped majority of the match, she did not get much offense at all. Kudo put Toyota in a very interesting hold, i didn't know whether to watch or look away lol. I really enjoyed this one, though i wish kudo and toyota would have showed more of there stuff. Was my fav right away.

3rd match was manami toyota vs Kyoko Inoue. I was a bit dissapointed cuz this was not the 60 min draw, i don't know which toyota/inoue match this was. And let me say the picture quality of this match was very poor. Extremly, but it didn't take away from the match. Nice straight wrestling in this match. This was for the wwa title, inoue came out the winner. This one of my favs on the tape also.

4th match was from dream slam 2 and was toyota/yamada vs dynamite kansai/mayumi ozaki 2/3 falls. And once again toyota wore those fluffy things on her outfit. I don't know, but i'm not a big fan of that lol. Also the pic quality was poor, but the sound was worse! Kept goin in and out. But i could tell this was a great match, i couldn't take my eyes off of it. These girls give 100 percent in the ring.

5th match dream slam 2 Megumi kudo/combat toyota vs etsuko mita and mima shimoda. Once again i was upset because kudo was not showing all of her skills. Seem like she was holding back. But then again this was before the 1995 period. She still did moves good when she did them. Another great tag match, tho i wish this one was first cuz i got burnt out from the previous tag match.

6th match was the second match between megumi kudo/combat toyota vs Manami toyota/toshiyo yamada. Once again horrible picture quality. But the sound was good, so i still could enjoy it. Once again they can't pick up combat toyoda(which i don't understand cuz megumi picks her up no problem) And once again toyota gettin her butt whipped lol. Overall i enjoyed this one too. Of course i enjoy the first one better, ONLY because the picture quality was better.

7th Match was Toyota Vs Yamada in hair match. The only thing that took away from this match was the clipping. It seemed clipped so they could shorten it. But I enjoyed this one too, Toyota takes some sick bumps. And she's like the energizer bunny, she doesn't slow down.

8th Match is Toyota vs Aja kong match from 1995. Once again they gave it there all, not leaving the ring until they can't wrestle nomore. And aja falling on you, that has to be like a tree falling on you.

I'm happy to say that, there was a 10 match limit on personlized video, and i only picked 8 matches as you can see. So the guy added two more matches. Which i'm glad he did because the quality of 3 of the matches was completly horrible.

9th match was akira hokuto vs manami toyota. I was so surprised to see this match. I wanted to see this one as a matter of fact and it didn't dissapoint. They went all out, put powerbombs on the "unbreakable ajw table." Only complaint was it seemed clipped so it seem short.

10th match was yumiko hotta vs Manami toyota. Another good match, what can i say? I don't know anything about yumiko hotta. Still enjoyed this one.

My opinion manami toyota is a great worker no doubt, but she can be very sloppy. Couple of times she'll do a back flip off the rope without lookin back first and she'll completly miss her target. And by the way does manami toyota have bones?! She gets folded up every direction lol.

My verdict i'm happy with my picks. Great video, couple matches i rewind and watch them over right away. This what i've been waiting for, pure wrestling action! Only complaint was not the matches, it was the poor quality with 3 of the matches. And it wasn't the tape, the tape was brand new 8 hour tape. I understand these matches are old and it's hard to keep them fresh and new. So I don't sweat it too much.

Don't know what to say about Manami being "sloppy." Just that you have to watch the right Toyota matches, because she truely does have a lot to offer. Get some of the other matches with Toyota vs. Kyoko, even the tag team matches with them on opposing sides. Also, try to find complete matches, because it seems like your dealer gave you the clipped versions from the Manami Toyota commercial tape.

Where'd you get your comp from? Getting matches recorded at EP speed(6-8 hours) takes a lot away from the VQ. SP speed is the best for VQ, even though you can only put 2-2 hours & 45 minutes worth of footage. It's worth it, though. In the end, it all depends on your budget.

Well actually it was recorded on LP mode. Yea i'm a newbie to this, my dealer did give me clipped matches. I thought he had enough events to give me all of them. There be an introduction and then the match. I was slighty dissapointed, but those are the matches i wanted. Plus i could afford it, i didn't want to get a whole event cuz id have it then Id just be wishing i had the other matches anyway. I Do wish the quality was better on those 3 matches tho.

It sux that you got alittle shafted on a few of those match, but its good intro at least. next time, do what I do, find out as much as you can about your dealer find out how reputable he is, ask questions about the source material, and taping speed. Personally, I will only buy dvds, and I'm very choosey about who I order from, cause when you live in Europe and you are ordering something from the US, you don't want to spend too much for something you are not going to be completely satisfied with. www.purodvd.com is a good seller, his selection of Joshi is a tad small at the moment, but he some really good shows, and the quality has been excellent so far, and he doesn't charge too much either.

BTW, Toyota can be pretty sloppy at time, but she is still one of the best, even if she isn't one of my all time favorites, she has my respect.

Thanks for the link, unfortantly i don't have a credit card. And the guy had money order on there. It's fine, I can still watch them, i just have somethin right now to quinch my apitite until i get better tapes or dvds. I'm glad i know where to get this stuff now though. Don't get me wrong, i'm not dissing toyota one bit, she's so great. I just wanted to point out, she missed her target couple times.
