    Maekawa retired

Kumiko Maekawa had a retirement match at Kourakuen Hall on 2006/03/25 with other former AJW stars and staff in attendance. She put the WWWA World Title, which she kept since AJW closed in April last year, on the line against former champion Nanae Takahashi. Takahashi pinned Maekawa at 25'04" and won the title. Right after the match, Takahashi immediately returned the belt to the former chairman Takashi Matsunaga and abandoned the title.

From what I understand the title was retired, not abandoned. To me, Abandoned implies that they pretty much threw it in the garbage. Retired means they treated it like something important right up to the end.

"Abandoned" seems to be more common since it was used on Gary Will's book.

I don't disagree with you, though.
