Liger's greatest match ever?
I can honestly say that few wrestlers have had as many memorable bouts as Jushin Liger. But, if you had to choose just one, is your very favourite Liger match?
I really do love his IWGP Jr. title win against Naoki Sano from 1/31/90. Just seeing Liger absolutely torn apart by Sano, having his mask completely ripped off to expose a bloody face, and still coming back to win the title. Really great stuff.
Oddly enough, my other favourite also includes Liger being unmasked. While it's not a great example of technical wrestling by any means, Liger and Muta's wild brawl from 10/20/96 is one of my favourite bouts of all time. When Muta sees Liger's face covered in Muta-style paint, and then gets blasted with green mist, that's a great moment. It gets even more bizarre with Liger tearing off his silver and white outfit to expose war paint on his chest.
Some of my other favourites:
- Liger vs. The Great Sasuke (Super J-Cup 1994 semi-finals, 4/16/94)
- Liger vs. Shinjiro Ohtani (2/9/97)
- Liger vs. Ultimo Dragon (Liger wins J-Crown, 1/4/97)
- Liger vs. Tatsumi Fujinami (11/11/91)
- Liger & Chris Benoit vs. Keiji Mutoh & Hiroshi Hase (Super Grade Tag League 1993, 11/11/93)
- Liger vs. Owen Hart (Best of the Super Jrs., 4/28/91)
- Liger vs. Black Tiger (Best of the Super Jr. finals, 6/12/96)
- Liger vs. Chris Benoit (Mask vs. title, 7/4/91)
- Liger vs. El Samurai (Top of the Super Jr. Finals, 4/30/92)
I have seen the face of Satan, and his name is Bill Apter.
