Howdy, folks...haven't been here in a while. Happy New Year n' all that!
I remember hearing that Jushin Liger's character was based on a manga character, just like Tiger Mask had manga and anime roots. Does anyone here have scans from the Liger comic? I can't seem to find any on the web.
I am unaware of a manga, but the anime had a run of 52 episodes, and was said to be rather poor by a sentai otaku friend of mine who has the first 4 episodes. It was supposed to fansubbed awhile ago but the project ended up getting dropped. If by chance a local shoten happens to have tapes of it you can see it raw, but I really wouldn't get my hopes up for that.
Thanks for responding! I heard that Go Nagai created the character, so I assumed that there was manga before the anime. Thanks for the info! I think someone at Death Valley Driver reviewed some of the episodes and didn't think they were all that hot either.
For some reason, people in the states seem to think that Go Nagai has talent on the level of Takahashi Rumiko-sama. Don't the familiar name fool you, a lot of his work is utter crap when someone is not getting slashed to pieces. Unless of course you enjoy putting up with with hours of mind numbingly bad plot in exchange for a few minutes of people getting cut up.
You will probably want to check out the Tiger Mask anime if you can track down copies of it. From what I've seen of it it's really good. Baba, Inoki, Rikidozan, Brisco and others appear throughout the series. A true gem, and you can find more info about it at the provided URL. Highspots used to have a few episodes, although the quality was said to be poor. http://www4.airnet.ne.jp/pancra/tigre/
Metal Fighter Miku is more recent, is filled with joshi goodness and more importantly chicks who are way hotter than any real women. Lots of easily accessible information is available about it elsewhere.
