GHC Champ conquers Bear: Kobashi's Amazing New Training Methods
As reported by another puro news site:
Kobashi sparred for two hours with a "bloodthirsty grizzly bear" on a beach in Shirao Town (Hokkaido). The sea cried, the special soul training of Kobashi shook the northern ground, and the waves of the North Sea raged. It was so chilly that long sleeve shirts were still required in Hokkaido, yet steam flew from the body of Kobashi as he fought the cannibal bear. Standing 3m and around 500kg, the bear fought Kobashi mightily. Yet the bear was no match for the pro wrestler, Kobashi was the King of Grizzly, and reigned over the mountains of Hokkaido!
Kobashi also worked out "on the beach" with Honda reportedly putting together a combination move for their GHC Tag Title Shot on 6/6 that would integrate Honda's throwing ability with the destructive power of the Champ in a throw to lariat type of manuever. It's great to see that NOAH is staying true to their pro wrestling roots. I haven't seen Bears fight wrestlers in years, although it was quite common place in the 50s I do believe to have carnival type of match ups on cards. I remember Lou Thesz saying how much he disdained the lack of respect such tactics showed to the sport and how he avoided working cards that also featured "carny" bouts. But there is something in this that screams "Pro Wres" and it's tradition. Man vs. Nature. The champ overcoming a ferocious bear. I think that there is more metaphor intended in this story of Kobashi's training, perhaps not to be taken completely literal but still I do enjoy this larger than life notion this sort of thing conjures up. It is a fresh bit of relief from the "realistic" vale tudo and mma influence that has been pushed upon the puro scene. I do hope they have some footage of this for a NOAH Di Colosseo special. That would be insane!
I have lot all my respect for my namesake...there I would like to be known as WilliamsFan from now on...I feel disgraced with the name of Edge on me...
I suppose instead of that he could use the "Bear-ning Lariet" on the big guy....
OH and I suppose instead of the bear being "Blood thirsty" he might have been thirsty for some "Orange Crush"....you think the bear fights like Kuma-chan from Tekken??
