CORINO-HASHIMOTO MATCH BACK ON!
TAMPA - In a bizarre turn of events, the canceled match between NWA World Heavyweight Champion "King of Old School" Steve Corino and Japanese superstar Shin’ya Hashimoto from Zero-One scheduled for the NWA Anniversary show in St. Petersburg this Saturday night is back on.
At approximately 1 a.m. ET Thursday morning, Simon Inoki confirmed with NWA president Howard Brody via telephone that the Zero-One contingent had in fact a change of heart and were in route to Tokyo Narita Airport to come to the U.S. after having discussed the matter with several key business partners Thursday morning in Tokyo. One of those partners was Stagia Entertainment, the group that had earlier requested Hashimoto postpone the trip. According to Inoki, a former Florida politician who was visiting Japan reassured the group that their airline security and medical fears were being fueled by the local media and it wasn't as bad as the press was making it out to be.
Even though the match is back on, Brody said that in the event of another postponement by the Zero-One group for any reason whatsoever, contingency plans are now in place that will enable the card to occur without hurting the integrity of the show.
