Right. This gets a little tricky. Shinya Hashimoto was New Japan's top draw for most of the 90s, a huge singles star. However, he had major qualms with Riki Choshu's regime (the pushing of Sasaki and Nakanishi above him, Mutoh and Chono); he also had a major problem with Inoki, who jobbed him out to Naoya Ogawa one time too many in Hash's eyes; Inoki then came up with a stupid angle in which Hash would retire (due to a loss to Ogawa), but be brought back, having to wrestle in rookie tights and with generic entrance music. Hashimoto hated this, and, after a big verbal attack on Choshu, quit New Japan, billing himself a free agent; he did return to New Japan a couple of times, as the betrayer, facing Sasaki and then Choshu, both matches ending in no contests; Shinjiro Otani, who also had his problems with Choshu (Otani objected to the heavyweight vs. junior series), followed Hash out, and Otani's friend, Tetsuhito Taikawa, did likewise.
ZERO-ONE struck up relationships with NOAH and BattlARTS, although both ended, and so went through a perod of dire UFO type shows; it is improving a lot though, as it now does variety shows.
Hashimoto books it, and it's not above, or even close, to NOAH, as it has only just begun to run full tours, and so numbers aren't high.
Still Hashimoto has a couple of good years lefy in him... If you guys saw the Tokyo Dome show, you probably noticed that fans miss him... He was the man for like 5 years... That Norton-Tenzan vs OH GUN match was intense...
Zero-One is also a member of the National Wrestling Alliance under the auspices of Mr. Inoki. As I understand it, although Mr. Inoki remains the official member of record, Mr. Yoshiyuki Nakamura of Zero-One has been approved by the NWA Board of Directors to act on his behalf as an agent in all business matters pertaining to the NWA in Japan.
