Shin'ya Hasimoto from Zero-One defeated Steve Corino for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship last night (Dec. 15) in McKeesport, PA in a minature one-night tournament to decide the New Champ,
Match #1: Steve Corino beat Gary Steele with a small package
Match #2: Shin'ya Hashimoto made Gary Steele submit to a Tokyo Crab
Match #3: Shin'ya Hashimoto defeated Steve Corino with a brainbuster to be crowned the NEW NWA WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION!
As Hashimoto was celebrating his victory, a masked man ran into the ring and laid out Hashimoto. When the masked man took off his mask and revealed himself it was none other than Former NWA World Champ, Dan "The Beast" Severn

I think this situation with hashimoto can go both ways. If the american public accepts hashimoto as their NWA World (Yes, I did say WORLD for all you bastards at PWI) Champion then that title could gain back some much needed credibility. Then again if Hashimoto just kicks Severn in his head (assuming that that will be the big match), then the Alliance has got problems. As I see it it's a positive for the organization to have a foreign wrestler with such credibility as hasimoto to hold such a prestigous crown. Hopefully Hasimoto will also defend his crown in ZERO-ONE and that might even give the jackasses at PWI a thought about acknowledging the crown as a world championship.
The problem is that the NWA title means so little anymore that it's hard to make a big deal out of it. They've put it on well-known Americans like Sabu and Corino, but they still can't sell huge amounts of tickets and whatnot. In Japan I'd imagine Hashimoto could parlay the title into some kind of national recognition, but it really doesn't have the importance that it once did.
He's just saying that magazine Pro Wrestling Illustrated (PWI) in the U. S. has not recognized the NWA belt as a "World" title since 1991 when most of its power and aura were taken away by WCW. Remember that any federation, particularly in North America, can call its title a "World" title, but the real way (at least according to PWI) of being one is if it is defended on national TV, not just around the world.
I actually didnt find out the NWA was still around until last night when i was getting ready to go back home to California from Arizona i saw it on the airport tv.
Belive me the NWA may not be the force it once was, but it will be again. There are many territories running regular shows, and its only a matter of time before American fans get tired of the wwf product. Hashimoto is a great pick for the World Title, and there are some great things that can come out of his title reign. I hear that he will defend the title in the States again sometime in March, and I hope that people take the opportunity to see him in action.......The "Sleeping Giant" NWA will awake soon. Belive it
