"ZERO-ONE is undergoing a "crisis" now according to the Japanese media. With the man it all revolves around, Shinya Hashimoto, out for 2-3 months probably, the press is speculating that the company may collapse.
Due to poor ticket sales, the 7/21 Fujikyu Highland Conifer Forest convention, which was supposed to wrap up the "OH TAG FESTIVAL 2003", has been cancelled. The final of the tournament has been moved forward to 7/18 at Amagasaki City Memorial Park Gymnasium (6,500 seats), so the four group stage matches scheduled for 7/21 will presumably be placed on other shows.
Ogawa's UFO disciple, Katsuhisa Fujii, will replace Hashimoto as his tag partner.
Things are very chaotic right now in Japan, with ZERO-ONE, All Japan, AND World Japan all rumoured to be going under. For All Japan, it's a serious threat right now, and for World Japan, it all depends on how long the financial backer(s) will pump money into a failing venture. ZERO-ONE numbers have stayed consistent for months though, and with Naoya Ogawa still healthy, they should be able to survive the 2-3 months Hashimoto may miss, unless there are other problems not publicized."
They just did 9,000 for "Extermination D," that's a failing company? I noticed 1wrestling reporting that Ohtani will now become the ZERO-ONE ace, though this article says Ogawa. Fans won't remain loyal while Hashimoto's injured?
Hopefully the situation isn't as desperate as it's being made to seem. Though show cancellations are never a good sign...

That's why I wonder if US news sources are over dramatizing this. Or does the Japanese media often dramatize wrestling reporting?
From what I can gleen from (badly) translated Japanese sites, the 7/21 "OH Tag Festival" show that was cancelled for "local sponsor reasons."
And how can a company with Tanaka, Ohtani, Ogawa, and Corino be hurting for draws?
There must be few favors Hashimoto can cash in on while he's injured.
Originally posted by Jason The story about Z-1's troubles was broken Yomiuri Sports, so it's not an issue of the American wrestling media blowing it out of proportion.
My apologies but that doesn't mean anything to me.
What is Yomiuri Sports reputation on wrestling reporting?
Ogawa's a draw, and perhaps Ohtani too, but Tanaka and Corino aren't on that level.
Well, I was thinking as the guys Ogawa and Ohtani could feud with...
Here's what Steve Corino said on his website forum:
"...This is a great "crisis". Unlike crisises (is that a word?) that caused the downfall of companies such as the AWA, ECW, and XPW this "crisis" is not financial.
This one is simply: Who is going to lead the company? Ogawa claims that he is the man in charge now and Ohtani claims that he is the main man.
After being through the real crisis of ECW, this is a great crisis!

So I'd say it's a "drama" crisis more than anything else.
Well, 0-1 drew only 888 fans to Korakuen hall for their opener
and BTW results from the OH Gun tag league
The Predator & Kevin Randleman beat Yoshiaki Fujiwara & Yuki Ishikawa (15:14) when Predator used a diving King Kong kneedrop on Ishikawa.
Naoya Ogawa & Katsuhisa Fujii beat Tom Howard & George K. (11:14) when Ogawa used an STO Bomber on George.

In a situation like this... it would be a great time to start pushing some top gaijins even more and some of your midcard talent, with the in-ring attention being away from Hashimoto...

Yeah, and not the "Super Heavyweight" gaijins. The OH Tag festival should be used to build and Ohtani vs. Ogawa feud for "ace" of Zero-One.
Corino & Howard could try to use all the Gaijins as a stable to take power, and the other could defend ZERO-ONE from Gaijin takeovers as they keep on eye on the power struggle on top.
But 888 people...don't know what to say about that.
The card doesn't look THAT bad
Naohiro Hoshikawa vs. Shinsuke Z Yamagasa
Steve Corino vs. Jun Kasai
Dos Caras Jr. & Lizmark Jr. vs. Kohei Sato & Hirotaka Yokoi
Matt Ghaffari & Shifu Ghaffari vs. Katsumi Usuda & Fuyuki Takahashi
Shinjiro Otani & Masato Tanaka vs. Jason The Legend & Jason The Dynamite
OH Tag Festival - Round 2: The Predator & Kevin Randleman vs. Yoshiaki Fujiwara & Yuki Ishikawa
OH Tag Festival - Round 1: Naoya Ogawa & Katsuhisa Fujii vs. Tom Howard & George K.
But I guess there were better things to do in Tokyo on this Friday night...
Matt Ghaffari & Shifu Ghaffari beat Jason The Legend & Jason The Dynamite (8:29) when Legend was DQ'd.
Shinjiro Otani & Masato Tanaka beat Steve Corino & Kendo Kashin (13:21) when Otani pinned Corino.
Naoya Ogawa & Katsuhisa Fujii beat Dos Caras Jr. & Lizmark Jr. (13:33) when Ogawa pinned Lizmark.

If I may quote Steve Harvey, "What the Hell"?
So I'd say it's a "drama" crisis more than anything else.

I'd go you one better Cactus, WWE Styled Storylines that Z-1 really don't need.
