Does PRIDE 21 look to anyone to be a big disapointment in the making? Takayama vs Frye should not be main eventing the show, Tamura is being wasted again, and Scnilt has been cheated out of his title match. I'd have booked it like this:
1. Rodrigo Gracie vs Norihisa Yannemoto
2. Bob Sapp vs Quinton Jackson
3. Renzo Gracie vs Alex Steibling
4. Kiyoshi Tamura vs Alexander Otsuka
5. Yuji Nagata vs Masaaki Satake (worked win for Nagata)
6. Mirko Cro Cop vs Igor Vovchanchyn
7. Don Frye vs Yoshihiro Takayama
8. PRIDE Heavyweight Title: Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira (c) vs Semmy Schnilt.
Now, was it a "work" that Takayama didn't go down sooner? Or is he a good shoot fighter, I mean good enough to last 6 minutes in the same ring as Frye???
^^^ With Takayama's face ending up like that (which is to say, TOTALLY deformed), i don't think he'd agree to such a "work"!
But then, doesn't anyone else here feel that the punch-trading seems a LITTLE bit TOO prowrestling-like? I mean, it IS pretty unbelievable for such to happen in shoot-fighting... and in such fashion.
They DID punched each other for real, but the ACTION of grabbing each other's head and just stand there to start pounding...hmmm...
