DSE has finally announced the list of the 1st round matches for the Pride Middleweight Grand Prix 2003:
-Kiyoshi Tamura vs Hidehiko Yoshida
-Alistair Overeem vs Chuck Liddell
-Quinton Jackson vs Vitor Belfort
and finally...
-Kazushi Sakuraba vs Wanderlei Silva III !!!
Can Saku can beat Silva this time ? Or Silva will be advantaged by 3-0 ?
Apparentlty, DSE has not selected the matches by a random drawing
Sakuraba and Tamura on opposite brackets?!? Takada must be afraid they'd kill each other.
Yoshida is Mr. Work on the ground, but I don't think Tamura is as willing as Masaaki Satake to job for this chump. Tamura by KO.
Overeem/Liddell will be a slobberknocker. Tough fight to call--Overeem has submission skills to back up his striking ability, but Chuck has proven he hang on the ground.
Jackson will beat Arona.
Sak was destroyed by Silva at PRIDE 13. He was ahead on points when Silva slammed him onto the injured list at PRIDE 17. Third time's a charm?

i think you mean vanderlei, not vitor. hes not in the grand prix. but they are interchangeable. it would be great to see tamura and sakuraba, if he can make it past silva. i have faith in saku, he is my last hope. word is he plans to retire soon, which would not be bad. of course, it would be more like hibernation for a few years then he would resurface for another run.

I like they way they booked this tourny. Silva-Sakuraba in the first round brings in the crowd. Tamura-Yoshida has to happen if they are going to build up Yoshida for the second round. The other two fights should be very good. By not having brackets they can match whoever gets the First round win but isn't 100% to Yoshida and have Sakuraba or Silva face the tougher fighter in round two. They have maximized the chances of a Sakuraba vs. Yoshida final that I'm sure they are hoping for not that I think they'll get it. I'm thinking Yoshida, Liddell, Jackson, and Silva make it pass round one with Silva winning the tourny. It will be interesting to see how it all comes together though all these fighters are good and the all have questions about them.

I have lot all my respect for my namesake...there I would like to be known as WilliamsFan from now on...I feel disgraced with the name of Edge on me...
Yoshida's win over Tamura came by submission (choke).
Rampage won a split decision over Bustamante.
Minotauro beat-o Ricco by unanimous decision, in what was apparently a very boring fight.
