Whilst browsing on triplecrowntapes.com I came across two MMA promotions called Hook N' Shoot and Smack Girls which both promoted female Mixed Martial Arts.
Don't misinterpret this... it isn't foxy boxing or catfighting at all. It's women doing legit shoot fighting but I was wondering if there are any other promotions like this or if the tapes are worth getting from triplecrowntapes.
HOOKnSHOOT is actually promoted in the US, and I would recommend buying the legitimately released DVDs of the shows, since the gate didn't really pay for the them and Jeff Osborne(the promoter) is a good guy. And if promoters lose money, that means there's no work for the rest of us. Pick up HOOKnSHOOT stuff at fightworld.com so the money goes directly to promoter.
As far as if it's worth getting or not, I'd try a HOOKnSHOOT DVD and see if women's MMA is your cup of tea. Revolutions 2 was said to be a really good show. You probably wouldn't want to start with Smackgirl, since they have some strange rules.

I'm thinking about importing a few women's MMA shows with my next batch of stuff from Japan, so if there are requests let me know.
Somehow I missed Toan's question way back in the day, so I'll go ahead and answer that now. Under Smackgirl's normal rules, they use an 8 count for knockouts. They also don't let the girls fight on the ground for more than 30 seconds. There was some controversy about Yabushita using her gloves in some kind of unusal way against Josh Barnett's woman awhile back too. I haven't seen it, but do know that the gloves they use are not typical MMA gloves. Other times they use traditional MMA rules. They've run at least one Royal Rumble style match with eliminations by submission only, under submission wrestling rules. If you don't know what you're watching, it can be tough to follow. Any way you look at it, the 8 count is bizarre. They also run pro wrestling style angles at times. The Toughill/Yabushita situation got played up like a heat up angle for a rematch.
Hopefully someone in Smackgirl will steal King Kong Bundy's gimmick and demand a 10 count instead of an 8 count. That seems like it would push their love of wrestling angles just enough for them to really do it. I don't think their office would go for naughty nurses or Erotic Terrorists.
