Hi all! I just got back to New York City after living in Osaka for over a year, and I wanted to look for some Shooto or Kakutogi dojos in Manhattan. I know about all the BJJ academies here, but I have grown fond of the Shooto style of fighting and instruction, much like the Saku/Takada type.
What's your definition of kakutogi? In general (at least in Japanese language), it means "fighting sports", which includes sumo, kickboxing, boxing, wrestling, sambo, juujutsu, shooto, karate, etc., etc...
Unfortunately, there's currently no shooto dojo in NYC.
For your reference, here's the contact of a gym that teaches jiujitsu and muay thai that my friend goes to:
Alliance Jiu-Jitsu

Oh yeah, that was my former school. Fabio Clemente's place. Pretty cool that they are teaching Muy Thai now, used to be a pure BJJ school.
When I say kakutougi I mean the modern shooto/NHB version. Like the Purebred or the Takada dojos. Lots of submission grappling, but also training standup. I'll make a trip back to Alliance Ju-Jitsu and check it out.
