yup that's right it has indeed been confirmed by DSE and PRIDE, this will definately be a battle, Silva will have to fight smart in this fight since Cro Cop's stand up is superior to Silva's, also I believe the round system will be like K-1's 5 rounds x 3 minutes which will make it even harder and perhaps force a stand up war between the two. Go Cro Cop!
If it stays a stand up battle the Cro Cop is going to show the world just how much of a glass jaw Silva possesses. Silva, despite being from a kickboxing discipline, has been demolished by strikers. The sad thing is his jaw is so weak that guys who are horrible strikers like Henderson and Saku have dropped him to one knee with their limited punching abilities.
Look for the knock out that will force the rematch for a title shot.
I don't think Mirko Filipovic has that much chance of winning against Silva, unless he gets a lucky winner or Silva gets stupid. I'm not saying he can't do it, just that the odds seem stacked against him under NHB rules.
True, Silva almost certainly can't win if they just stand and trade strikes, but he'll have the advantage on the ground and can probably contend enough in stand-up to keep his other options open and retain initiative. His advantage on the ground doesn't only lie with GNP (the difficult bit being to get the big croatian down) but also with submissions. OK, Silva isn't the world's foremost submission technician , but you gotta believe he's better equipped and trained in that domain than Cro Cop. He'll have to work well on Filipovic's guard and avoid those knees!
I think the key of the fight, for him anyway, is that he'll need to be versatile.
Filipovic will certainly want to avoid going to the ground, and may well wage a defensive fight with that in mind, hoping to KO Silva on a counter. I just hope we don't end up with a boring display of Filipovic hanging around the ropes (à la Takada), probably resulting in a decision for Silva.
Other things that aren't in Cro Cop's favour: the dubious quality of his victims (though he did dispatch them in style) and the poor showing of other notable K1 fighters in MMA recently (Matt Skelton and esp. Jerôme LeBanner).
No... It's just that I'm both a NJ and PRIDE fan... I can apreciate the 2 sports... I don't need to see a talented guy like Nagata (in what he does) destroyed buy another guy like Cro Cop or Silva in a shoot to make it more fun
Wrestlers should stay in their wrestling ring anf face other wrestlers... and shoot should face other shoot fighters...
