I was on another forum in a discussion with a poster about UFC. He said that he has friends who work for UFC that say that some of the matches are fixed. Does anyone believe there is some validity to this statement?
In UFC I only know of two worked fights. I have only heard about them but I have not seen them. One involved Don Frye and the orther involved Oleg Taktarov, they were both in a UFC tournament and were going to fight Abbot in the finals and he had short fights in the previous rounds so they wanted to be fresh for him. They both ended up winning their fights also. I don't know if these were worked or not but they very well could have been. But in PRIDE on the other hand, they do have worked fights, Takada vs. Otsuka and Takada vs. Coleman. All of Naoya Ogawa's fights have been works. And there may be a few more.
I seen the Taktarov fight in question. He was fighting a Thai kickboxer who's name escapes me. They trained together and were buddies. The fight starts and the kickboxer basically gives him his neck. Chokeout. Taktarov seemed pretty annoyed after the fight. In the replay they even show the guy winking at Taktarov while they did the intros. Even if it wasn't technically a work, it's fairly obvious that a fight was thrown.
I remember reading about that - I believe the explanation given was that the guy "didn't want to fight his friend and training partner" so threw the fight
